Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field of study.
  • At the end of the internship, you must return to school to continue your education or the internship must be the last requirement for you to graduate.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior research publications, internship experience, relevant project experience, teaching assistance experience, and/or relevant work experience
  • Product design experience (preferably consumer electronics)
  • Experience working with component modules (LCD assemblies, batteries, camera modules, etc.) and their interconnect (FPC design and ACF bonding)
  • Strong knowledge of materials science fundamentals for plastic, adhesive, metal, glass, ceramic, composite, and coating materials
  • Ability to use statistical tools and techniques
  • Expertise in Finite element analysis theory and general mechanical engineering analysis
  • Ability in plastic, metal, composite, and glass/ceramic part design
  • 3-D CAD skills
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
  • Handheld, portable and/or hardware experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of the integration of wireless antenna (GSM, GPS, Wifi) into mechanical enclosures
  • Understanding of the design of audio subsystems (microphone, speaker, receiver)
  • Proficiency in Unigraphics or Pro-engineer
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Ability to work on multiple requests/tests at the same time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Design, engineering and validation activities for all hardware product lines
  • Help to create the next generation of the world's finest hardware devices
  • Conceive, design, and bring into production products that will re-define user experience
  • Work closely with many different multi-functional teams, including Industrial Design, Packaging, Safety, Hardware Engineering, EMC, Reliability and Marketing
