About The Position

MaintainX is seeking a Product Design Manager to lead a team of product designers focused on making complex, high-stakes workflows simple, intuitive, and AI-powered for maintenance technicians, reliability engineers, and operations managers. The role involves setting creative direction, growing designers, and partnering with Product and Engineering to shape product outcomes. The manager will be responsible for design quality, team leadership, translating strategy into execution, and fostering collaboration with cross-functional teams. A key aspect of the role is to raise the craft bar by contributing to critiques, investing in the design system, and ensuring consistency. Additionally, the manager will lead the team in adopting AI tools and practices to enhance design work and output quality and speed.

Requirements

6+ years of product design experience in B2B SaaS or enterprise platforms.
Experience shipping complex, multi-surface work.
1–3 years of experience managing product designers, including running 1:1s, giving feedback, navigating performance conversations, and helping people grow.
Strong product thinking and craft judgment.
Ability to understand customer problems, business tradeoffs, and connect design work to strategy.
Build trust through consistent, direct, and accountable actions.
Create clarity for your team, resolve friction with partners early, and lead with confidence while being open to changing your mind.
Care about AI-powered product experiences, both in how your team designs for AI-first workflows and in how they use AI tools to push the quality and speed of their own work.

Nice To Haves

Experience with frontline, mobile-first, or offline-capable product design
Background in industrial, operations, or maintenance-adjacent domains
Experience contributing to or scaling a design system
Familiarity with designing for AI-powered workflows and data-rich interfaces

Responsibilities

Own design quality across your team's product areas for web and mobile.
Guide designers through ambiguity, review work with a sharp eye, and ensure what ships is grounded in real user needs and built to a high standard.
Lead and grow a team of 4-6 product designers, including running 1:1s, driving career growth, delivering clear feedback, and building a team culture where people do their best work.
Be responsible for hiring, performance, and developing the next generation of design talent at MaintainX.
Translate product strategy into focused design execution, helping the team understand the 'why' behind their work.
Set a clear, directional vision for your team's focus, rooted in customer understanding and business context.
Partner closely with Product Managers and Engineering leads to align on priorities, unblock delivery, and advocate for design quality and user needs.
Contribute to design critiques, invest in our design system, and ensure consistency and coherence across the experiences your team touches.
Lead your team in adopting AI tools and practices to accelerate design work and push the quality and speed of your team's output.
