About The Position

The Product Cybersecurity Engineer is a senior individual contributor in General Motors’ Secure Product Engineering pillar. Working hands-on with product engineering teams, the engineer helps ensure software and systems are implemented securely during product development. The role builds tooling, reusable patterns, and secure-engineering capabilities, and provides technical guidance and workflows that scale across GM’s portfolio, including embedded vehicle software, mobile experiences, and other software and services. It is an execution-focused technical role in which influence comes through technical credibility, collaboration, mentorship, and leading by example rather than people management.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of cybersecurity experience in application security, product security, or a similar area.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and influence, including contributing without formal authority, mentoring engineers, and helping shape technical direction.
  • Strong experience in application security, secure software engineering, and practical technical guidance.
  • Experience with SAST, DAST, fuzzing, code review, and secure SDLC workflows across platforms.
  • Ability to read and write software in multiple programming languages to build tooling and support team execution.
  • Ability to work closely with engineering teams to materially improve security without unnecessary friction.
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including company sponsorship or other immigration-related support.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in the automotive industry or a similarly complex, deadline-driven, and regulated field.
  • Published cybersecurity research, such as conference talks, blog posts, or code repositories.
  • Familiarity with embedded software or OS security, mobile applications, and backend development.
  • Experience building custom security tooling or extending functionality in related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute hands-on to secure software and systems engineering, driving outcomes through direct execution and influence within engineering teams.
  • Design, build, and mature secure engineering services and capabilities for GM products.
  • Partner closely with product engineering teams and directly support secure implementation.
  • Implement and mature SAST, DAST, fuzzing, runtime security, and OS security hardening for core code bases.
  • Author technical guidance, reusable patterns, and guardrails, and help deploy them across product environments.
  • Perform in-depth secure code reviews and work with adjacent teams to improve tooling and incorporate security requirements into engineering.
  • Mentor and support engineers across the pillar through example and pairing.

Benefits

  • Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
  • Well-being support at work and at home.
