Product Builder

Pennant Services

About The Position

The Product Builder owns a feature from technical kickoff through merged, released code. Working from a validated problem, prototype, and specification produced by Product and Design, this role designs the system, plans implementation, and directs AI coding agents to produce code while remaining accountable for correctness, security, and long-term maintainability. The role owns complete feature architecture and program design, including system design, component and feature contracts, data models, endpoint and API design, test approaches, program layout, call stacks, component trees, and dependencies. It plans vertical slices, implementation order, coordination across repositories, and incremental pull requests linked to tracked issues. Product Builders orchestrate AI agents, critically evaluate generated code, and maintain effective agent workflows. They also oversee pull request quality through code review, CI/CD checks, tests, security and SAST scans, and human validation against the intended architecture. Release readiness is shared with Product, Design, and Leadership. Product Builders participate in technical kickoffs to identify risks early and collaborate with Design on prototype QA, Product on AI evaluation results and scope drift, and platform architects when a feature needs a new capability or data contract. The position works on an applications platform maintained by the Application Platform Architect and follows data contracts and standards owned by the Data Platform Architect. Product, Design, and Leadership own problem framing, success metrics, research, prioritization, and product specifications; platform architects own shared repositories, CI/CD, and the data platform. The role requires systems thinking, rigorous verification of generated code, ownership through shipment, and collaboration with clinical and product partners. It also involves handling protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and internal data governance requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience building and shipping production software.
  • Demonstrated ability to design systems, including data modeling, API design, and defining contracts between components.
  • Strong code review skills, including the judgment to identify correctness, security, and maintainability problems in code not written by you.
  • Working knowledge of automated testing strategy, including what to test, where seams are, and what adequate coverage looks like.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control workflows, and secure development practices, including static analysis and dependency scanning.
  • Ability to decompose a feature into incremental, independently reviewable slices.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with non-engineering partners, including Product, Design, and clinical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and internal data governance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience directing AI coding agents or working extensively with AI-assisted development tooling.
  • Experience in healthcare technology, particularly home health, hospice, or post-acute care.
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
  • Experience integrating with third-party clinical or operational platforms.
  • Experience working in a monorepo with shared CI/CD infrastructure.
  • Exposure to evaluating AI-driven product features, including defining evaluation criteria and test cases.

Responsibilities

  • Design feature architecture, including system design, component and feature contracts, data models, endpoints, and APIs.
  • Define program design before implementation, including test approaches, seams, program layout, call stacks, component trees, and dependencies.
  • Plan implementation order, vertical slices, multi-repository coordination, and incremental pull requests linked to tracked issues.
  • Translate architecture and program design into tasks for AI coding agents; evaluate their output and maintain effective agent orchestration workflows.
  • Review pull requests and validate code quality through CI/CD checks, unit tests, security and SAST scans, and human review of the codebase.
  • Carry accountability for feature correctness, security, maintainability, and readiness for release in collaboration with Product, Design, and Leadership.
  • Participate in technical kickoffs and surface technical risks before architecture and implementation begin.
  • Collaborate with Design on prototype QA, Product on AI evaluation results and scope drift, and platform architects on missing capabilities or data contracts.
  • Influence product and platform decisions and push back when needed, while recognizing that ownership of those decisions rests with other teams.
  • Handle protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and internal data governance requirements.

Benefits

  • Full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with match.
  • Paid time off and holiday pay.
  • Professional development.
  • True work-life balance.
