CBC Hamilton is hiring a producer to help launch a new weekday morning current affairs radio program and a weekly news podcast. This role will also involve creating compelling programming across all platforms to serve audiences in the Hamilton region. The ideal candidate is a strong, dynamic, innovative, and adaptive journalist who inspires others to experiment and take risks. This is a strategic role focused on audience needs, ensuring programming connects audiences to relevant news, stories, and community issues. The producer will work with the executive producer to develop a vision for the new radio program and podcast, focusing on broadening reach through digital and visual storytelling and community outreach. They will understand how to program for a live daily audio show with content adaptable to other platforms. This role involves overseeing newsgathering resources, deciding on story coverage, coordinating breaking news, programming digital services, vetting content, and collaborating with other CBC News locations. Experience in assigning and managing work, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks are essential. The producer will also focus on broadening the range of perspectives in news content, ensuring adherence to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices, and upholding principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, impartiality, and integrity. A key aspect of this role is the ability to coach and motivate others.
