About The Position

Joe V's Smart Shop is seeking an Exempt Department Manager to oversee department operations. This role requires a strong emphasis on a specific area of expertise, such as produce, market, or front end. The manager will be responsible for leading teams, analyzing financial reports, ensuring operational efficiency, and championing the brand promise to deliver exceptional customer service and savings.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience in a complex environment with multiple direct reports
  • Thorough understanding of retail accounting
  • Experience in ordering
  • Experience in inventory maintenance
  • Experience in shrink control
  • Leadership skills (people leadership, ownership mentality, know the business, strategic planner, adaptable)
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including night shifts
  • Completion of H-E-B's or JVSS's Management Training Program
  • Successful completion of JVSS - H-E-B School of Retail Management SORM

Responsibilities

  • Oversee department operations, including perishable departments, center store, Inventory Flow, Receiving, and Shelf Edge, with a specific emphasis in the area of expertise (e.g., produce, market, front end).
  • Utilize independent judgment in making employment-related and business decisions, including hiring, promoting, disciplining, and resolving partner-related matters.
  • Manage people, staffing, and training for the area of focus.
  • Review and analyze financial and performance reports, identifying and addressing opportunities and issues.
  • Manage Operational Review Team (ORT) related audits and findings.
  • Conduct detailed store and/or department walks.
  • Maintain work instructions for the area of focus.
  • Monitor and report on inventory estimates and Direct Store Delivery (DSD) accounting.
  • Exercise an ownership mentality in the department and total store.
  • Create weekly schedules to meet business needs.
  • Operate in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ensure proper order and inventory levels within the department.
  • Order product and perform quality control.
  • Participate in the store leadership team to ensure coordination, integration, and alignment of total store plans.
  • Support Leadership and Department teams with a total store mindset.
  • Manage operations in the area of focus, monitoring craftsmanship, shrink, safety, and quality assurance.
  • Create actionable plans and follow up on "What Ifs".
  • Serve as the Brand Promise Champion.
  • Focus on partner/customer relationships, collaboration, communication, and education.
  • Model and cultivate superior customer service across store departments.
  • Identify and develop future talent.
  • Model and promote active engagement with the Community.
  • Manage and be responsible for center store inventory workflow, including receiving and shelf edge.
  • Assist in weekly execution of the center store merchandiser planner.
  • Organize and plan using the daily forecast in relation to inventory work flow.
  • Lead the inventory flow team to maximize productivity and efficiencies.
  • Manage and be responsible for overall front end operations, ensuring customer service with efficient throughput and adherence to operating procedures.
  • Manage a large team efficiently.
  • Manage and be responsible for overall meat market operations, ensuring food safety and partner safety compliance.
  • Have a strong knowledge of meat cutting equipment, specialty meat items, and meat cooking techniques.
  • Manage and be responsible for overall produce and bakery operations.
  • Plan and execute production plans and merchandising programs to drive sales in produce and bakery.
  • Ensure food safety compliance and partner safety requirements are followed for produce and bakery.
  • Ensure a proper store close, evening replenishment, and appropriate store conditions are maintained for the floor (total store).
  • Be accountable for the proper level, organization, and purchasing of all supplies for the Total Store.
  • Be accountable for all safety programs and regulations.
  • Be accountable for sanitation and pest control programs.
  • Manage and be responsible for the Store Recovery Team.
