About The Position

Saskatoon Co-op is seeking a Produce Clerk for Watrous Food #152. This position is responsible for assembling, displaying, and merchandising fresh produce according to established policies and procedures. The role involves stock rotation, trimming, preparation, washing, quality control, display setup, and price marking. Additionally, the Produce Clerk will prepare perishable products for overnight storage, follow overnight care procedures, and assist with receiving and inspecting fresh produce. They will also examine and store produce, inspect and rotate merchandise from storage and display, and report any spoilage, damage, or shortages to the Produce Manager. Maintaining markdown records for shrinkage and spoilage, monitoring for unauthorized removal of merchandise, and ensuring adequate produce levels are also key responsibilities. The role requires adherence to sanitation, cleanliness, and safety policies, including sweeping, mopping, keeping aisles clear, and maintaining the cleanliness of equipment. Assisting with inventory takes and providing excellent customer service are also part of the role. The Produce Clerk is expected to acquire product knowledge through study, clinics, meetings, and adherence to association procedures. Other duties as assigned may also be part of the role.

  • Sufficient knowledge and experience of produce merchandise handled in order to effectively operate in the department.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision and direction.
  • Able to work mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, display and merchandise fresh produce according to established association policies and procedures, including rotation of stock, trimming and preparation, washing, culling and quality policing, displaying for sale and price marking.
  • Prepare and/or remove specified perishable products for overnight storage.
  • Follow specific procedures of overnight care as set out by the association in the display and/or storage area.
  • Assist in receiving and inspection of fresh produce into the warehouse.
  • Examine and store all fresh produce as specified by the association.
  • Inspect, rotate and remove fresh produce merchandise from storage and display.
  • Notify the Produce Manager of excessive spoilage damage and/or shortages.
  • Notify the Produce Manager of need for adjustments from suppliers.
  • Maintain markdown records with respect to shrinkage and spoilage so as to maintain margin controls.
  • Be constantly alert for unauthorized removal of merchandise.
  • Ensure adequate level of fresh produce is displayed at all times as specified by the association.
  • Observe all association's policies with respect to sanitation, cleanliness and safety of employees and customers by: sweeping and mopping of floors as specified; keeping all aisles and passageways clear of obstacles and; keeping all shelves, bins, fixtures, utensils and related produce equipment clean and sanitary.
  • Assist in scheduled inventory takes.
  • Assist in all respects of maintaining the highest standards of customer service and relations.
  • Acquire produce product knowledge by the reading and studying of materials provided, attendance of scheduled clinics and meeting and observance of all procedures and policies as set out by the association with respect to produce operations.
