About The Position

The Produce Clerk II role focuses on maintaining stock levels in the produce department, replenishing products, and providing exceptional guest service. Produce Associates are responsible for ensuring the quality, freshness, and deliciousness of fruits and vegetables for community families.

Requirements

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers and all personnel.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle a diverse crew in a highly stressful environment.
  • Complete understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies.
  • Ability to apply on-the-job safety training to recognize and react to possible safety hazards.
  • Proper training and knowledge of equipment/procedures including slicers, proper lifting techniques, trash compactor, and baler.
  • Knowledge of the retail food business.
  • Thorough knowledge of perishable department operations.
  • Merchandising skills.
  • Ability to make timely and effective decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service to guests, including assisting with item location, taking orders, and handling special requests.
  • Answers the telephone and assists callers with proper phone etiquette.
  • Addresses guest concerns and resolves issues, escalating to the Produce Department Manager when necessary.
  • Stocks and maintains product levels by filling all items on display.
  • Rotates products using the first-in, first-out method to ensure freshness.
  • Follows display standards and maintains a clean and tidy sales floor, free of messes or spills.
  • Maintains Produce department supplies such as roll bags and twist ties.
  • Takes regular temperature readings of equipment and fills out rotation and shrink sheets daily.
  • Maintains the Produce cooler by rotating items using the first-in, first-out method and keeping it clean and organized.
  • Orders certain products for the department, such as dips, spices, and herbs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ensures regular, timely attendance and provides adequate notice for absences.
