About The Position

The Produce Associate provides quality customer service within the Produce Department, maintaining standards in accordance with the standard practice manual. The role maximizes sales through excellent customer service and minimizes shrink through proper use of standard practices. The associate maintains a friendly, accurate, and efficient shopping experience; handles produce ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning, and display according to company policies; unloads department trucks; and uses company inventory and ordering tools. The role also follows food safety, workplace safety, company policies, and applicable regulations, completes required training, and performs other assigned duties.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
Ability to use technical information to solve problems.
Meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions.
Meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform job functions.
Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm motions; bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally; and pull or push up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
Ability to stand 100% of the time and frequently walk short distances.
Ability to handle substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials, fresh fruits, vegetables, house plants and flowers, and household cleaners.
Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level, and occasional reaching above shoulder or below waist level.
Ability to meet established volume activity standards for the position.
Ability to tolerate extreme hot or cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time.

Responsibilities

Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness, emphasizing fast, friendly, and accurate service.
Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
Ensure ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning, and displaying of merchandise follow policies and guidelines.
Unload trucks for the Produce Department.
Understand and use company tools, including the average cost inventory system (ACIS) and ordering (CAO).
Follow company guidelines, policies, and standard practices.
Follow food safety and workplace safety guidelines and procedures; observe and correct unsafe conditions that could cause accidents.
Report associate and customer accidents according to established procedures to the Manager on Duty.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Wear the Food Lion uniform and apron with name badge, maintain a neat and clean appearance, and adhere to the dress code.
Complete required Computer Based Training (CBT), Training Packet, and Training Aid courses.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
