About The Position

Prodigy is a state-appropriated prevention program serving youth, adults, and families throughout west central Florida. UACDC is recruiting Part-Time 1099 Contract Instructors skilled in the arts to teach novice and advanced students ages 7-17 in a group class format. Classes are held 1-4 times a week. The position is also responsible for administrative tasks such as creating lesson plans, maintaining class attendance, collecting data as needed, and maintaining a safe and positive classroom experience for participants. Other duties may be assigned, such as assisting with performances and exhibits at the annual Prodigy Showcase. Most class sessions are held after school (3pm – 7pm) or during the summer time.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and/or Associates Degree or BA preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in art instruction.
  • Prior experience in facilitating arts education to children and youth is required.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within arts instruction is required.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Basic computer skills including all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) is important to conduct administrative tasks.
  • The ability to multi-task, strong problem solving, priority setting, time management and organization and collaboration skills are required.
  • Must be available during after school and summer hours.
  • Knowledge of art teaching to school-age children and diverse adult populations.
  • Skills in classroom communications and ability to communicate and relate to youth and diverse adults.
  • Knowledge of designated music / art specialty(s), with the ability to convey to youth and adults the history, concepts and techniques of the designated music and art specialty(s).
  • Skills in communication (written and verbal) with fellow employees, students, parents, program partners, researchers, and program administrators.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
  • Ability to work with youth age 7 – 17 and adults.
  • Ability to work independently, plan and organize work assignments and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and apply program procedures, regulations, and rules.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and students effectively in all types of situations.
  • State FDLE Level II background screen, fingerprinting and drug screening required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience in a non-profit organization, school and youth program is an added plus.
