About The Position

Hawkeye Forest Products LP., a subsidiary of Baillie Lumber Co., has an immediate opening for an experienced Procurement Forester / Log Buyer. The position is intended for a disciplined, responsible forester who can work independently in a remote setting. The hiring area is West Central Wisconsin, Southeast Minnesota, or Northeast/Central Iowa.

Hawkeye Forest Products is located in Trempealeau, Wisconsin, and produces green and kiln-dried walnut lumber, timbers, and other proprietary and custom products using a modern sawmill and drying facility.

The role involves daily travel to logging sites and timber sales. The employee measures and grades logs or timber and purchases them through direct negotiation or bidding. Other duties include coordinating trucking, administering timber sales, and uploading scale data to a computer.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience in a forestry-related setting, with some experience buying logs or timber.
• A degree from a two-year technical program or four-year undergraduate program in a forest products-related field, or experience buying logs or timber.
• Experience scaling and grading logs and trees.
• Ability to use handheld data collectors to scale logs.
• Ability to use computer programs including email, Excel, and Word.
• Ability to work independently in a safe and effective manner.
• Adherence to safety policies.
