The Procurement Buyer is responsible for obtaining materials, equipment, parts, and services at the best value. This role involves developing cooperative relationships with suppliers to ensure business needs are met, ensuring supplier reliability and capability, and assisting business units in reducing costs by recommending alternate sources, materials, or processes. The buyer will also develop strategies with supporting supply portfolios, conduct market research, execute strategies, remain flexible to market changes, assess risk, and manage supplier development. Key accountabilities include developing a network of sources, implementing strategic action plans, assessing supply risks and opportunities, negotiating with suppliers, drafting and finalizing agreements, and managing the supply chain through supplier performance evaluations. A strong understanding of finance, legal aspects of purchasing, and inventory control is essential, as is independent thinking for managing supplier relations within company guidelines. Problem-solving and procedural control within spending limits are also critical. Some travel may be required.
