About The Position

The Processing & Packing Operator I supports Mennel’s food safety programs and its mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service. The role transfers, packs, loads, ships, and receives inbound and outbound materials while maintaining sanitation to promote safety, food safety, and an infestation-free facility. The employee is expected to uphold the company’s mission, motto, and Food Safety and Quality Statement.

The position works shifts as assigned, with overtime as required. It has no supervisory duties. Employees must follow applicable food and personal safety rules, maintain the department or facility in an audit-ready condition, complete sanitation and preventative maintenance tasks, use required equipment, and complete necessary documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification.
• Ability to pass a respirator fit test and perform essential job duties while wearing a respirator.
• Ability to maintain open communication with internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office, the Internet and Intranet, and other computer software needed for job duties.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans; write and complete checklists and other basic documentation; and present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group settings.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Sound judgment and ability to recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including regularly standing, walking, using hands for maintenance tasks, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, crouching, crawling, and talking or hearing; occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds or more.
• Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and around airborne particles.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in warehousing, flour milling, food processing, or another related manufacturing field.

Responsibilities

• Follow food and personal safety requirements and sanitation guidelines, including GMPs, OSHA, HACCP, Global Food Safety Initiative requirements, and the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act; attend required training.
• Maintain the department or facility in an everyday audit-ready condition and ensure food safety rules, plant safety rules, and GMPs are followed.
• Complete general sanitation tasks such as blowing down, vacuuming, mopping, and washing.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs, including packer changeovers and forklift inspections.
• Transfer, pack, load, and unload flour and feed products using necessary equipment, including forklifts.
• Load bulk and bag flour trucks and unload rail cars.
• Complete required documentation.
• Operate forklifts daily.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
