About The Position

The Process Technician – Machining & Optimization is an autonomous, technically advanced role responsible for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automated machining lines. Beyond day-to-day operation of multiwire slicing and precision grinding equipment, you will act as a key bridge between the production floor and the engineering team. You will independently diagnose process bottlenecks, execute experimental trials, perform hands-on equipment repairs, and optimize machine recipes to drive higher yield, tighter tolerances, and minimized material waste.

Requirements

  • Has a High school diploma or GED required.
  • Possesses 3–5+ years of experience in high-precision manufacturing, technical machining, or process optimization.
  • Is knowledgeable with structured problem-solving methodologies and experience participating in or executing engineering DOEs.
  • Is able to work independently with minimal supervision, manage competing priorities on the floor, and take ownership of technical issues from diagnosis through resolution.
  • Can demonstrate strong mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols, and electrical/hydraulic schematics.
  • Can demonstrate excellent written communication skills for detailing engineering changes, drafting maintenance logs, and updating production teams on recipe modifications.

Nice To Haves

  • A technical certification, vocational training, or an Associate’s degree in advanced manufacturing, industrial maintenance, or mechanical technology is highly preferred.
  • Direct experience repairing or tuning multiwire saws or precision grinding systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, adjusting, and optimizing machine programs and process "recipes" (e.g., wire speed, feed rates, tension controls, grinding wheel profiles) to achieve maximum product yield and throughput.
  • Partnering with engineers to set up and execute Design of Experiments (DOEs). Run structured trials on new wire types, abrasive wheels, slurries, or magnet geometries, meticulously documenting the outcomes.
  • Independently diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults on slicing and grinding assets. Performing hands-on repairs, rebuilding assemblies, and modifying equipment setups to sustain high performance and minimize operational downtime.
  • Proactively analyzing production data and machine performance to identify root causes of process drift, visual defects, or component wear. Developing and implementing localized solutions to improve structural quality.
  • Authoring and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Formally documenting all process changes, recipe updates, and maintenance actions within the engineering log and inventory systems to maintain strict quality control.
  • Utilizing micrometers, calipers, and optical measurement systems to verify tight geometric tolerances against blueprints, ensuring full material traceability.
