About The Position

This position provides support for the daily activities in the Set-up Process department. The role involves supporting Silgan Penn Yan with processing issues in the manufacturing of plastic containers, communicating effectively with plant process set-up technicians to resolve issues, and assisting process engineers by applying plastic processing knowledge and experience to evaluate new products and make design recommendations to improve process capability. The technician will also be responsible for troubleshooting on blow molding equipment, supporting technicians during breakdowns or quality issues, troubleshooting bottle and jar defects, performing preventative maintenance on tooling, and operating production equipment. Additionally, the role involves performing and assisting in machinery changeovers and process set-ups, working closely with process engineers to develop new processes and containers, determining optimum processes, and collaborating with color suppliers to ensure success on color orders and run new color samples.

Requirements

Preferred: High School Diploma or GED
No prior experience required, however manufacturing experience preferred.
Dependable with a strong commitment to attendance and punctuality.
Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
Strong attention to detail and quality.
Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment.
Willingness to perform repetitive tasks and support production operations as needed.
Excel, math skills
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, arms, and upper body.
Ability to lift, carry, and handle production materials and cartons as required.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
Basic knowledge of hand tools.

Responsibilities

Must follow and enforce Silgan Safety, Quality and GMP policies.
Support Silgan Penn Yan with processing issues in the manufacturing of plastic containers.
Effectively communicate with plant process set up technicians to resolve issues.
Assist process engineers by applying plastic processing knowledge and experience to evaluate new products and make design recommendations to improve process capability.
Read and understand product part drawings and specifications and fully understand what features are critical to part function and performance.
Provide independent recommendations for product design or process changes to improve product or processes based on Manufacturing needs.
Troubleshoot on blow molding equipment and support technicians when break downs occur or containers are not running to quality standards.
Troubleshoot Bottle and Jar defects.
Perform preventative maintenance on tooling.
Perform Quality Inspection requirements.
Operate forklift.
Operate production equipment in blow molding machines.
Perform and assist in production machinery change overs and process set ups.
Work closely with and support company process engineers to help develop new processes and new containers.
Determine optimum processes to meet product performance requirements.
Work closely with color suppliers and customer service to ensure success on all future color orders and run all new color samples.
