About The Position

Merrick & Company is seeking a high school, technical school or community college Engineering or Drafting and Design student for a paid apprenticeship program in our Greenwood Village, CO headquarters. The apprenticeship program has a commitment of approximately 18 months to 2 years. The Merrick Apprenticeship Program will provide an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of engineering, design and drafting. The apprentice will be exposed to various design items, including detailed design, 3D modeling, and drawing creation. Typical design systems may include architectural and interior design and documentation, structural design, HVAC design, process piping and plumbing design, pressure vessels, facilities electrical design and documentation, containment systems, custom equipment, and material handling equipment. This specific apprenticeship position is for a process design apprentice and will work directly with small teams to produce drawings, project documentation, and fabrication packages of piping utility needs for custom equipment with direction from the project engineer. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels. The position requires collaboration with other disciplines, the ability to work independently and the ability to problem solve.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing an Associate Degree – Drafting/Design, Graphic Design or Technical College Certification or Equivalent Experience from high school CAD and engineering program.
  • Minimum 0-2 years of experience.
  • Client projects for this position requires U.S. Citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of basic AutoCAD.
  • Experience with solid modeling software is a plus. CREO, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, CADWorx or other 3D modeling packages.
  • Understanding of basic drawing generation and layout.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Possesses basic oral and written communication skills.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
  • Collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Local candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produces drawings and project documentation using the basic working knowledge of the CAD software.
  • Detailed design activities include preparation of PFDs/P&IDs, piping drawings, and other project documentation including Piping and Component lists using reporting software and project databases.
  • Creates and manipulates basic drawings in an intelligent database environment.
  • Complete revisions of existing technical drawings.
  • Perform entry level routine technical work.
  • Work on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role, with growth of role and responsibilities as apprenticeship progresses.
  • Follow defined CAD standards and quality procedures.
  • Receive initial instructions from a mentor or supervisor and have technical work checked upon completion.
