About The Position

GFL Environmental is seeking a highly intelligent, independent, and driven Process Improvement Specialist for a 1-year contract. This role is part of the Treasury & Shared Services – Business Process & Special Projects team and will focus on the Cash Applications department. The specialist will lead a comprehensive study of the department, including process discovery, SOP updates, pain point identification, solution scoping with ROI, and implementation to address system gaps and workflow improvements.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Process Improvement Specialist, or similar strategic role, with a proven track record of leading process improvements.
  • University degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Advanced expertise with Excel/Google Sheets, PowerPoint/Google Slides, and process mapping tools (e.g., LucidChart, Visio).
  • Expert ability to write comprehensive SOPs.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a proven ability to independently identify root-cause issues and build compelling business cases.
  • Highly self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities, drive a project methodology forward without micromanagement, and confidently navigate ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication skills to present complex ideas clearly to leadership.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop a comprehensive understanding and summary of current state cash application processes and systems.
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) according to existing or new processes.
  • Utilize process mapping techniques to document current-state and future-state processes and systems.
  • Identify structural bottlenecks, system pain points, and operational inefficiencies.
  • Scope out actionable solutions.
  • Develop and present proposals to management, supported by ROI calculations and data.
  • Actively assist in and drive the rollout and implementation of approved initiatives.
  • Partake in testing for process or system changes (UAT), and identify and document testing gaps.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
