About The Position

Spartech in Stamford manufactures acrylic sheets for various applications including aerospace, security (bullet-resistance), displays, acrylic furniture, and laser protection. Their products are used in airplanes, fighter jet canopies, helicopters, bank teller windows, and tanning beds. The company utilizes a unique process combining technology with employee skills to produce quality products and aims to provide the highest quality acrylic sheet with excellent service.

Requirements

BS Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences or equivalent.
3 years of experience in equipment and process development, implementation, and support in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of manufacturing systems and processes.
Analytical and mathematical skills necessary to collect, interpret, and act on process trials and activities.
Able to plan and execute trials to drive out waste and reduce variation, as well as make process evaluations and drive improvements.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as EHS standards, operating manuals, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and government regulations.
Ability to write operational and project reports, correspondence, and policies and procedures.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization, including internal and external associates (including project presentations in group settings).
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

Nice To Haves

Operational Excellence training, and/or certifications (Lean, Six Sigma, ISO) preferred.
Experience using SAP or other manufacturing enterprise systems would be desirable.

Responsibilities

Drive process improvement, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting through data collection and analysis to enhance material/labor utilization, output rates, set-up times, and product quality.
Support the planning, developing, and coordinating of safety, health, and environmental compliance programs.
Act as a key member of the team driving Safety, Compliance, and Process improvement throughout the Stamford facility.
Take ownership of the plant’s primary processes (e.g., cell casting, coating, annealing, mixing) to support Company and plant goals.
Optimize process performance using Operational Excellence tools and techniques.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, plant, and corporate EHS policies and procedures, and develop/maintain safety systems, policies, and procedures for the Stamford site.
Provide key support for Emergency Response functions in accordance with the site emergency response plan (PSM – start-up, shut-down procedures, etc.).
Ensure equipment and facilities are installed and maintained in compliance with all applicable regulatory, site, and corporate requirements.
Ensure site project activity is completed in compliance with all applicable regulatory, site, and corporate requirements.
Complete all EHS reporting timely and accurately, including required government and agency reporting.
Ensure programs are in place and followed for all necessary employee monitoring and testing requirements (e.g., IH – hearing tests, air sampling).
Drive Lean Concepts within the plant and collaborate with other departments to ensure success.
Evaluate and recommend material and formulation improvements, including cycle optimizations, by working with process operators and R&D Lab personnel.
Collect and maintain primary process operating conditions for specific products to ensure repeatability.
Collaborate with Operations Management to define goals, objectives, and projects related to yield improvement, labor optimization, conversion cost reduction, product quality, and compliance.
