About The Position

Rio Tinto is offering a 3-month Process Engineering Summer internship at their port and refinery in Wilmington, California. This internship provides an opportunity to be introduced to the dynamic mining industry, which requires highly trained personnel to support the growing demands for high-quality process analyses. The role involves analyzing mechanical and instrumentation processes for failure modes and evaluating risks, with a focus on creating rigid controls to ensure layers of protection for potentially hazardous scenarios. There is an increasing demand for technical expertise at Rio Tinto Boron and other operational sites. The company is a world leader in automation and smart mining, with industry-leading technical development programs that offer opportunities for career growth through a dedicated technical path. Interns will work in a challenging and exciting environment within the RTM Borates Department, engaging in projects that involve both field and office work, applying learned concepts, and interfacing with operations and other groups as part of a small multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • At least one year completed in Chemical, Engineering or other related field
  • Leadership skills, eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead
  • Flexibility and autonomy
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Valid driving licence
  • Must be a registered student at a recognized American university
  • Must have the right to work full-time in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Working on multiple projects with a mix of field and office work
  • Put to practice the concepts you have learned
  • Interface with operations and other groups to complete projects
  • Working with a small multidisciplinary team on the port of LA
