About The Position

Kemira is seeking a Process Engineer, Automation to manage process automation activities for their Chemical manufacturing facility in Marietta, Georgia. This role involves control strategy design, development of control software, and identifying process improvement opportunities through process control. The position also includes prioritizing automation work and leading other automation resources, including site engineering, plant technicians, and contractors.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree (Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical / Instrumentation Certification is preferred).
  • Siemens PCS-7 Experience is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in either process automation or manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at one time.
  • Familiarity with plant operations as well as project work in the process control discipline.
  • Highly motivated and results-driven individual with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with cross functional teams, engineering groups, plant operations, plant maintenance, and automation-electrical contractors.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical / Instrumentation Certification is preferred.
  • Previous experience in process automation design / development, implementation, and checkout is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Distributed Control Systems (Siemens Simatic PCS7, Simatic Batch, WEB App, SIS, PH/IS, and AVEVA/OSI PI) for the Marietta site.
  • Maintain a plan to support and sustain process automation assets, including system upgrade planning and performing system backups.
  • Serve as systems administrator for the process control area network.
  • Support identification and implementation of required cyber-security measures.
  • Act as Process Automation Owner for site facilities, taking accountability for the automation improvement program.
  • Identify process automation improvement opportunities, providing value assessments and prioritization.
  • Support day-to-day operations of the Marietta site to meet business goals, including understanding unit operations and developing DCS software.
  • Drive continuous improvement of process automation performance metrics through alarm management, manual intervention reduction, and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) monitoring and correction.
  • Design and develop process control strategies (SFC’s / Batch Automation) to optimize plant operations.
  • Document and maintain a prioritized work list for process automation improvements.
  • Serve as the primary process automation representative for the plant for all capital projects involving process control changes.
  • Manage automation resources allocated to the Marietta site, including E&I technicians and external contractors.
  • Ensure safe and unplanned event-free implementation of process automation projects.
  • Manage and provide guidance in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) for Layers of Protection through Process Hazard Analysis and RISK Assessments.
  • Maintain site-specific applications for process information systems/historians and develop new applications.
  • Coordinate and conduct Process Automation related training for applicable personnel.
  • Maintain operation of site security systems (Cameras / Access Controls).
  • Maintain Automation Related CAD documentation (Automation Hardware/Networks, LOOP Sheets, Electrical Elementaries).
  • Collaborate with technology group peers to share knowledge, develop standards, and best practices.
