About The Position

Vertiv is seeking a Test Automation & Process Engineer for its Test Engineering team in Delaware, Ohio. This role is distinct from typical test-automation jobs, focusing on building systems for data collection, analysis, and workflow simplification rather than writing software-QA frameworks or running electrical tests. The position involves automating data collection from laboratory instruments, creating analysis tools (potentially using AI-assisted development), and transforming team knowledge into standardized workflows using knowledge-management and AI-assisted tools. The role requires working in a high-power electrical laboratory and upholding principles of safety, integrity, and hard work.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with 3+ years of relevant experience; or A.S. with 5+ years; or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Proof of building automation or data-acquisition software, with the ability to walk through a past project and its impact.
  • Proficiency in Python (or comparable) for instrument control, data processing, and analysis.
  • Experience controlling laboratory instruments programmatically over LAN, USB, GPIB, or serial.
  • Sufficient electrical-test knowledge to read a schematic and work productively with test engineers.
  • Willingness and discipline to work safely in a high-power electrical laboratory.
  • Clear writing skills, as procedures must be followed by others.
  • Self-directed approach to identify friction, prove fixes, and implement solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on work with precision power analyzers, oscilloscopes, and power-quality meters (Yokogawa and Fluke preferred).
  • Experience with SCPI, VISA/PyVISA, LabVIEW, or similar instrument-control frameworks.
  • Knowledge in power electronics, UPS, switchgear, transformers, energy storage, or power-quality measurement.
  • Experience building engineering tools with AI-assisted development environments (e.g., Cursor).
  • Experience establishing or curating engineering knowledge bases, document repositories, or AI-assisted search/Q&A for technical teams.
  • Proficiency with Git and a habit of documenting shipped work.
  • Practical experience with Lean or continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Automate test data collection by building and maintaining automated capture from precision power analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, data loggers, and probes, interfacing over Ethernet, USB, GPIB, or serial using SCPI and standard instrument libraries. Replace manual reads, screenshots, and USB file pulls with clean, time-stamped datasets tied to the unit and the test, ensuring long-duration logging is reliable.
  • Build analysis tools to transform raw captures into engineering answers such as efficiency, power quality, harmonics, transients, thermal performance, and pass/fail against limits. Utilize AI-assisted development tools like Cursor for rapid software delivery, ensuring tools are self-service, version-controlled, documented, and supported.
  • Make the work easy to follow by writing clear standard work and simple workflows for setup, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Capture experienced engineers' and technicians' knowledge into searchable knowledge bases using AI-assisted tools, and train team members on delivered solutions.
  • Work safely in the open by following PPE, lockout/tagout, and lab safety rules without exception. Surface problems early, including personal ones. Partner with test engineers and technicians to translate their challenges into usable tools.

Benefits

  • PPE and safety training provided.
