About The Position

This position is a full-time (minimum 40 hours per week) on-site position. The Process Control Tech will be responsible for troubleshooting equipment using PLC programs to support plant Electricians, installing Programmable Logic Controllers on new and existing equipment, and documenting work and maintaining records. The role involves creating and reading logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up. The technician will program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley control systems hardware and software (Studio 5000, RS Logix 500/5000, Factory talk View ME/SE), interpret project documentation, and coordinate with engineering and maintenance on control system modifications. The goal is to increase uptime, throughput, efficiency, and quality through continuous improvement of equipment and technology utilization. This role also involves assisting in developing PM strategies, participating in design reviews, providing training to maintenance personnel and employees on troubleshooting, and performing scheduled plant coverage rotation for remote or on-site troubleshooting. The technician will also assist in identifying and procuring necessary equipment and parts.

Requirements

  • Good understanding of NFPA 70E and basic wiring techniques
  • Experience with drives, motors, and motor controls
  • Possess a good understanding of sensors
  • Possess a basic understanding of pneumatics – cylinders, valves, solenoids, etc.
  • Have a good understanding ladder logic program
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
  • Must be experienced in PLC logic and programming with any of the following PLC’s: Allen Bradly, Siemens.
  • AA in Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechatronics Technology preferred plus 2 years’ related experience in an industrial manufacturing setting; OR an equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
  • Computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Windows, MS Office programs and applications for word processing, email, database management and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to look at electrical blueprints, review them to identify issues and ensure they will work before being installed.
  • Must apply common sense and solve practical problems.
  • Ability to look at electrical grids and evaluate them for any problems, isolate the issue, and solve the issue to make sure they are being installed correctly.
  • Ability to identify issues and make corrective measures to fix problems with electrical components.
  • Electrical technicians need to be able to look for problems in complicated electrical grids, isolate the issue and solve it.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment using PLC programs to support plant Electricians.
  • Install Programmable Logic Controllers on new and existing equipment
  • Documenting work and maintaining records.
  • Back-up copies of programs and parameter sets for the plant.
  • Assisting in the training of staff
  • Monitoring work and systems to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and County codes, regulations, standards, and mandates
  • Create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up
  • Program and Troubleshoot Allen Bradley control systems hardware and software (Studio 5000, RS Logix 500/5000, Factory talk View ME/SE).
  • Interpreting project documentation to develop an understanding of the process control requirement.
  • Coordinate with engineering and maintenance on existing machine control modifications to robotic, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic and vision systems.
  • Retrofits to upgrade from SLC-era control systems for risk reduction are a possibility.
  • Increase uptime, throughput, efficiency, and quality, through the process of maintaining, designing, developing and continuously improving our equipment and the utilization of technology to ensure the best quality products are produced.
  • Perform continuous improvement activities to improve safety, to increase productivity and to reduce production cost, by development and improvement of electrical control systems, PLC, HMI & robotics programming, including design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Assisting in developing of PM strategies and identifying areas of improvement within the control system infrastructure.
  • Participation in design reviews for new machinery to provide input into control system capabilities which affect machine function.
  • Must be able to work closely with CAD designer/engineering to integrate/package/select appropriate electromechanical presses and servo motors to meet design requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to maintenance personnel related to controls systems.
  • Train employees on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting of existing equipment.
  • Scheduled plant coverage rotation required to remotely log in and troubleshoot machine issues, or, if required, be on site to assist with troubleshooting.
  • Resolve customer questions and/or concerns without seeking assistance from leadership.
  • Assist in identifying and procuring equipment and parts necessary for daily maintenance requirements.
  • Proficient troubleshooting, including electrical/electronic systems (+/- 10V, 24V, 120V)
  • Proactive individual that takes responsibility for their equipment.
  • Work in a team environment where honest communication, a positive attitude, engagement, and personal accountability are expected.
  • Work off-shifts, weekends, and extended shifts (i.e., 12 hrs.).
  • This position may require off-shift support for production or start up.
