About The Position

The Procedure/Surgery Scheduler will coordinate and support the scheduling of surgeries in collaboration with surgical departments, external business representatives, surgeons, physician’s assistants, and patients. This role involves allocating surgical blocks, providing data and reports related to the house of surgery, and performing various duties to support physicians, patients, administrators, and the institution.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required, or two years of medical appointment scheduling experience in a healthcare facility, or six months of internal Mayo Clinic experience in the hiring work unit.
  • Proficiency in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology preferred.
  • Must have clerical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must demonstrate well-developed leadership and customer service skills.
  • Must demonstrate superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess strong conflict management skills and the ability to independently problem solve.
  • Must possess sophisticated skill sets and experience in specific areas such as ever changing technology and business practices.
  • Must be comfortable with the latest office technologies
  • Knowledgeable in project management, computer software applications, scheduling technology, internet/intranet communications and research; document preparation, storage, and retrieval, customer service and public relations.
  • Performs duties independently and demonstrates good judgment in handling difficult or critical situations that may involve patients.

  • For internal candidate consideration: Must have Millennium/PCO experience and exceptional computer skills and knowledge of multiple software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support the scheduling of surgeries, in collaboration with surgical departments, external business representatives, surgeons, physician’s assistants and patients.
  • Allocate surgical blocks in collaboration with various department operations administrators, surgeons, physician’s assistants, clinic scheduling and desk personnel.
  • Provide data and reports related to the house of surgery, as requested.
  • Demonstrate initiative and proficient organizational skills, to perform a variety of duties in support of physicians, patients, administrators and the institution.
