About The Position

Teach students basic academic, social, and other formative skills through instruction in one or more subjects, promoting their physical, mental, and social development. Develop and deliver educational plans and lessons, assess student abilities and progress, and provide instruction and mentoring in classroom, small-group, or one-on-one settings. Support student safety and maintain a positive learning environment while adhering to treatment plans and participating in treatment team meetings as requested.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field eligible for teacher certification or licensure in the state where the facility is located.
• Current certification or license to teach in the state where the facility is located.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification; training is available upon hire and offered by the facility.
• Knowledge of developmental stages and behaviors for the students’ age group.

Nice To Haves

• One or more years of experience working with the facility’s population.
• First aid, if required based on state or facility.

Responsibilities

• Identify students’ educational needs and develop formal educational plans or programs to address them.
• Create lesson plans and teach subjects, study skills, and communication skills.
• Observe and evaluate students’ abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, and help them improve.
• Teach and mentor students in classes, small groups, and one-on-one settings.
• Communicate student progress to family members, counselors, administrators, and other teachers.
• Help students address specific learning challenges and prepare for state-required standardized tests.
• Document educational plans, goals, and progress as required by the facility and state.
• Supervise the classroom and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Develop and enforce classroom rules and administrative policies.
• Supervise students outside the classroom, such as during lunch or detention.
• Adhere to treatment plans and participate in treatment team meetings as requested.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers; acknowledge and work to resolve unmet patient needs or complaints.
• Recognize and prioritize patient safety.
• Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
