About The Position

DT-Trak Consulting, Inc. is seeking a qualified PRN General Dentist to support the Mid-Atlantic Tribal Health Center (MATHC) in Charles City, Virginia. MATHC serves newly federally recognized Tribes in Virginia and is expanding its direct care services to elevate the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the Native American community within its service area. This is a non-personal services, PRN independent contractor position under a federal Indian Health Service (IHS) contract. You will provide dental coverage during periods of provider absence, vacancy, or leave — ensuring uninterrupted, high-quality care for the patient population.

Requirements

  • Degree: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from a CODA-accredited program
  • License: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth of Virginia (required — no exceptions)
  • Experience: Minimum 12 months of clinical dental practice within the last 5 years, including general dentistry and outpatient/urgent care
  • BLS: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • DEA Certificate: Required for prescribing
  • Malpractice Insurance: Minimum $1,000,000 per occurrence / $3,000,000 aggregate professional liability coverage
  • Background Check: Must complete IHS CNACI/eQIP background investigation and fingerprinting prior to first shift
  • Immunizations: Must meet all IHS federal vaccine/immunization requirements (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Influenza, Tdap, TB test within 12 months, Annual N95 Fit Test)
  • IHS security clearance and suitability determination required prior to start
  • Must complete IHS orientation including Cultural Sensitivity, RPMS/EHR/Dentrix, PRC, and Customer Service training (paid at regular rate)
  • Required federal training within 30 days of start: HIPAA/Privacy, Cybersecurity Awareness, IHS Patient Safety, Trauma-Informed Care, Ethics, I-STAR, Emergency Preparedness, and others per IHM Circular 19-05
  • Must manage all patient information in accordance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and IHS policies
  • Subject to IHS Standards of Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy
  • Medical records must be completed at time of departure; HIMS clearance required before final invoice is processed

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive general dentistry for patients of all ages: examinations, restorations, extractions, endodontic procedures, periodontal care, and same-day urgent/emergent services
  • Review patient history, perform oral examinations, diagnose conditions, and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret dental radiographs and laboratory studies as clinically indicated
  • Prescribe medications within scope of dental practice (antibiotics, analgesics) in accordance with federal and state policy
  • Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options, and oral health maintenance
  • Coordinate referrals to dental specialists or medical providers when appropriate
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (RPMS/EHR and Dentrix)
  • Attend clinical staff meetings and comply with all MATHC policies, IHS standards, and federal regulations
