The purpose of an operating unit/facility-based position is to provide clinical resources in a variety of patient care departments throughout an Emory Healthcare (EHC) operating unit/facility. The PRN Float Sitter is assigned to a patient in the hospital setting to maintain a safe environment. They observe and report any changes in the patient's condition to the nurse accountable for the patient's nursing care. This role communicates with patient/family members and all members of the health team to relay appropriate information as part of patient care. As part of a patient-focused service, they promote a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction. Under the supervision of the patient's nurse, they may assist with transportation of the patient throughout the hospital, ambulation of the patient, bedpan/bathroom functions, bathing, bed making, feeding, providing oral fluids to the patient, and positioning for comfort. They ensure the neatness and cleanliness of the patient's room and support cost-efficient/effective patient care. They comply with Universal Precaution guidelines and all other infection control procedures and safety standards to maintain and promote a clean and healthy work environment. The PRN Float Sitter may discard disposable supplies, assist with bedrails, wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and bedpans, under the supervision of the patient's nurse. They float to patient care areas as assigned and perform other related responsibilities as required.
