About The Position

An internship with UNHCR Canada means the candidate will engage in the daily activities of our employees and gain real world experience while making a difference in the lives of people worldwide. Working with a seasoned fundraising professional team, they will immediately embrace real, meaningful assignments. The candidate will apply their educational knowledge to real-life situations while being urged to use their own creativity in their work. This intern position will report to and work with the PPH Associate and other PPH team members. In a larger context, this intern will be part of the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) team and have the opportunity to learn about how mid-level and major donors are cultivated and stewarded in person, at events, via email and via direct mail. This intern will learn about donor communication, relationship building, database management, administrative tasks, events, prospect research and more.

Requirements

  • University degree or college degree in progress (completed at least 2 years of Study) or completed within the last 24 months required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Good computer skills, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Eligible to work in Canada (Authorization in writing to work in Canada under the Federal Immigration Act (valid work permit) – Canadian residents- Canadian Citizens)

Nice To Haves

  • A Degree in Communications, Marketing or International Development is an asset.
  • Knowledge of or experience in database entry/management is an asset.
  • French language skills are a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the coordination of event logistics, including vendor management, venue setup, scheduling, invites, catering, and equipment needs.
  • Help coordinate personalized touchpoints for mid-value donors (handwritten thank you cards, thank you calls, impact reports, event invites, etc.).
  • Project manage the development of mid-value donor communication materials including proposals, cover letters, and thank you letters. Provide proof-reading and fact-checking support.
  • Conduct research, gather content and support the drafting, editing, and proofreading of written materials.
  • Use prospect research tools to create prospect briefings on a handful of mid-level and major donors. Support with due diligence screening reports.
  • Work in the donor databases to manage donor records and ensure that gifts are reflected properly in the database and tracker.
  • Assist with researching and analyzing data for all fundraising and marketing efforts. Pull information from a variety of sources to report on the effectiveness of our marketing and communication materials.
  • Helping with general administrative work and other tasks as requested.

Benefits

  • Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to support costs related to food and local transportation. The maximum allowance for a full-time internship is $2168.88 a month.
