About The Position

Manages a team that provides operational support for all Private banking loan originations and portfolio management support. Ensures operational efficiency and technical excellence for the Custom Credit Advisor. Partners with Wealth Management Loan Product Management and Private Banking to understand business needs and use operational, technical, and functional lending expertise to develop and implement policies and procedures that enhance efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ wealth management, tailored, and/or custom credit lending experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ wealth management, tailored, and/or custom credit lending experience
  • Completion of formal credit training program or similar work experience
  • Minimum of 1 years’ managerial, supervisory, and/or work leadership experience
  • Deep knowledge of structuring and advising on custom credit
  • Experience prioritizing and balancing competing needs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 8 years' lending experience in Private Banking or Commercial Banking
  • Minimum of 3 years’ management of a diverse team of operational functions in a financial services organization
  • Experience with pertinent internal systems
  • Deep knowledge of lending products, including SBL

Responsibilities

  • Manage three distinct functions supporting Private Banking activities, including client-facing support for the Custom Credit Advisors and Associates, SBL (Securities-Based Lending) Specialists and Portfolio management.
  • Understand each function and ensure the proper processes, practices and policies within and among them to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Ensure appropriate resource allocation to meet the needs of the business.
  • Partner with the business to keep a pulse on the way the team can optimally support the business; monitor supporting policies, procedures, and practices to ensure any gaps are identified and required improvements are implemented.
  • Review and approve daily department reports to ensure compliance with operational, security, and audit procedures, while supporting a positive client experience.
  • Understand portfolio metrics and compliance needs and make recommendations for process improvements as required.
  • Provide data, information, and perspective related to lending activities to contribute to strategic planning and short-term initiatives related to the team and systems, operations, compliance and service standards, metrics, and procedures.
  • Responsible for execution of department contingency planning and regulatory compliance.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.
  • Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
