About The Position

The Privacy Office is seeking a temporary Legal Consultant for a 12-month maternity leave replacement. This role is ideal for someone passionate about privacy and eager to apply their legal expertise to an organization committed to the highest privacy standards. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team and contribute to strengthening Beneva's privacy culture. The Privacy Office is looking for a meticulous legal consultant with strong analytical and synthesis skills and a collaborative spirit to support its activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Law
  • Member of the Barreau du Québec
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Good knowledge of applicable Canadian privacy regulations, specifically the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act
  • Excellent command of the French language, both spoken and written
  • Advanced command of the English language, both spoken and written

  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework and business practices specific to the insurance and financial services industry

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Privacy Officer in their roles and responsibilities.
  • Analyze and handle confidentiality incidents.
  • Participate in privacy impact assessments for acquisition projects, development, or redesign of information systems or electronic service delivery.
  • Issue legal opinions on matters related to personal information protection.
  • Support and advise business sectors in their projects and daily operations to ensure compliance with personal information protection requirements.
  • Assist business sectors in processing access and rectification requests.
  • Respond to member requests related to the protection of their personal information.
  • Develop training, work tools, and conduct awareness workshops for business sectors regarding personal information protection.
  • Collaborate on the analysis of personal information protection risks and propose mitigation measures.
  • Represent Beneva on internal committees and industry committees.
  • Contribute to Beneva's legislative and regulatory monitoring in privacy matters.
  • Work on special mandates or projects related to personal information protection.
  • Participate in accountability reporting to governance bodies.
