About The Position

This is a temporary position for a duration of 12 months. The Privacy Office is looking for a rigorous legal advisor with strong analytical, synthesis, and collaborative skills to support its activities. As a legal advisor in the Privacy Office, you will play a key role in supporting the Privacy Officer, issuing legal opinions, conducting privacy impact assessments, and working closely with business and corporate sectors in applying laws, regulations, and corporate policies. You will actively contribute to strategic projects and the implementation of solutions to ensure privacy protection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in law
  • Be a member of the Barreau du Québec.
  • Possess a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of applicable Canadian privacy regulations; more specifically the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.
  • Excellent command of French and advanced command of English, both oral and written, due to the nature of the tasks or interactions with English-speaking colleagues, partners, clients, or suppliers.

  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework and business practices specific to the insurance and financial services industry (an asset).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Privacy Officer in their roles and responsibilities.
  • Analyze and process confidentiality incidents.
  • Participate in conducting privacy impact assessments as part of acquisition, development, or redesign projects for information systems or electronic service delivery.
  • Issue legal opinions on matters related to personal information protection.
  • Support and advise business sectors in their projects and current operations to ensure compliance with personal information protection requirements.
  • Support business sectors in processing access and rectification requests.
  • Respond to member requests related to the protection of their personal information.
  • Develop training, work tools, and conduct awareness workshops for business sectors regarding personal information protection.
  • Collaborate in the analysis of personal information protection risks and propose mitigation measures.
  • Represent Beneva on internal and industry committees.
  • Contribute to Beneva's legislative and regulatory watch on privacy protection.
  • Work on special mandates or projects related to personal information protection.
  • Participate in reporting to governance bodies.
