About The Position

The Principle Architect will provide technical and solution architecture leadership across enterprise business platforms, initially focusing on the organization’s transformation from PeopleSoft to Workday. This role will help define the future-state application architecture, guide integration and data migration decisions, evaluate existing customizations, and ensure that solutions are scalable, secure, supportable, and aligned with business objectives. Beyond the ERP transformation, the Principle Architect will provide cross-functional architectural leadership for internally developed and enterprise applications supporting HR, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, and other corporate functions. The architect will establish reusable application patterns, reduce technical debt, improve integration consistency, and help modernize the organization’s homegrown application portfolio. This is a hands-on architecture role that requires the ability to operate strategically while remaining actively engaged in solution design, technical reviews, troubleshooting, and delivery. The Principal Architect will provide hands-on architecture leadership for the organization’s PeopleSoft-to-Workday transformation, while establishing the long-term architecture strategy for enterprise and internally developed applications.

Requirements

At least ten (10)+ years of experience in application development, solution architecture, enterprise applications, or systems integration
Strong PeopleSoft HCM or FSCM experience, including integrations, customizations, reporting, and batch processing
Experience supporting an ERP, HCM, Finance, or other enterprise transformation
Experience with Workday architecture, integrations, reporting, security, or implementation delivery
Proven experience modernizing internally developed or legacy applications
Strong knowledge of APIs, middleware, data migration, SQL, cloud architecture, security, and integration patterns
Ability to communicate architectural decisions effectively to executives, business stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams
Previous PeopleSoft-to-Workday migration experience
Workday certifications or hands-on experience with Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, APIs, Cloud Connect, or Workday Extend
Azure, DevSecOps, CI/CD, API management, observability, and enterprise data-platform experience
Experience working in healthcare or another highly regulated environment
Familiarity with Agile, Jira, ITIL, architecture frameworks, and SaaS governance
Must have access to a reliable high-speed internet connection to support daily job responsibilities. A minimum bandwidth of 50 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload is required.
Must live in EST or CST time zones

Responsibilities

Define architecture direction for enterprise capabilities, major domains, and strategic platforms, shaping the target-state architecture and long-range technology roadmap
Translate enterprise strategy, business priorities, and regulatory demands into architecture principles, roadmaps, and cross-domain design decisions that guide multiple portfolios
Establish and evolve enterprise architecture patterns, reference models, and decision frameworks across application, data, integration, platform, and security domains
Lead enterprise-wide alignment across business, product, engineering, infrastructure, data, and security leaders to drive coherent architecture decisions across organizational boundaries
Set the architectural quality bar for major initiatives and govern high-impact design decisions, exceptions, and technical risks across portfolios
Architect enterprise-scale solutions and capability models that optimize interoperability, reuse, resiliency, and strategic flexibility across the technology landscape
Own enterprise architecture artifacts for major domains and cross-domain capabilities, including target-state models, transition states, standards mappings, and dependency views
Chair or heavily influence architecture governance for strategic initiatives, shaping standards, approving exceptions, and guiding investment decisions
Lead the resolution of systemic architectural issues and technical-debt patterns that affect multiple domains, establishing structural improvements that strengthen enterprise reliability
Provide architecture leadership during significant enterprise events, transformations, and platform shifts, guiding response strategies and long-term corrective actions
Evaluate and recommend enterprise technology investments by balancing business value, strategic fit, cost, risk, and total cost of ownership across the portfolio
Defines enterprise interoperability approaches and architectural guardrails that improve integration, consistency, and flexibility across the technology landscape
Shapes enterprise security architecture expectations by embedding secure design, identity, access, data protection, and compliance principles into standards, roadmaps, and cross-domain decisions
Establishes and reinforces enterprise security and governance practices, using risk-based judgment to influence architectural direction, exception decisions, and mitigation strategies across portfolios
Demonstrates enterprise-level analytical problem-solving by resolving issues with broad or unique architectural implications and by framing options that balance strategic, financial, and operational considerations
Applies strategic critical thinking to anticipate business, technology, and regulatory change, designing architecture direction that future-proofs enterprise capabilities and reduces structural obsolescence
Sets the enterprise standard for execution quality by defining expectations for architectural rigor, governance, and documentation across major initiatives and architectural domains
Communicates enterprise architecture direction with clarity and influence, aligning executives, business leaders, and delivery teams around strategic technology choices and tradeoffs
Demonstrates enterprise and customer focus by linking architecture direction to business strategy, operational performance, compliance needs, and long-term value creation
Exercises broad architectural judgment with authority and accountability, determining when to enforce standards, permit exceptions, or redirect strategy in the interest of the enterprise

Shapes enterprise governance by defining or influencing standards, principles, and compliance expectations, and by guiding architecture review and exception management practices

Defines and evolves enterprise architecture patterns, standards, and frameworks, shaping consistent design decisions across domains, portfolios, and strategic initiatives
Serves as an enterprise-recognized technical authority across multiple domains, providing guidance sought by other architects and senior technology leaders
Demonstrates enterprise-level mastery of cloud, on-premise, and hybrid architecture strategies, using that perspective to shape long-range technology direction and operating models
Lead/support the future-state application architecture for the Workday transformation
Assess PeopleSoft customizations, integrations, reports, batch processes, and downstream dependencies
Determine which capabilities should be migrated, replaced by Workday, redesigned, retained temporarily, or retired
Provide architecture oversight for integrations, data conversion, reporting, security, testing, cutover, and application decommissioning
Review implementation-partner designs to ensure scalability, security, supportability, and alignment with enterprise standards
Establish technical standards and reusable architecture patterns for APIs, integrations, data flows, and internally developed applications
Assess the homegrown application portfolio and create modernization, consolidation, or retirement roadmaps
Reduce technical debt, redundant applications, one-off development, and point-to-point integrations
Lead cross-functional architecture decisions across HR, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Data, Security, and Infrastructure
Mentor technical teams and strengthen architecture governance, documentation, monitoring, and operational readiness
