About The Position

Bertrand Elementary School is seeking a Principal to lead their school. The school is located in the San Fernando Valley and serves approximately 315 students in grades TK/CC through 5th grade. It is a school-wide Title I Community School with a diverse student population, including a significant percentage of Hispanic students, English Learners, and students with diverse learning needs supported by Special Day Classes, Pre-School PALS, and a Resource Specialist Program. The school emphasizes the use of i-Ready, instructional technology, and writing across content areas to enhance student achievement. The ideal candidate will be a strong, collaborative instructional leader with proven experience in driving student achievement through data analysis and standards-based instruction. They should possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to effectively manage and support staff, and be proficient with i-Ready assessment and instructional tools. Strong communication and collaboration skills with all stakeholders are essential.

Requirements

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school.
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position.
  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a bachelor’s degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching.
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential.
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Multicultural coursework.
  • District Master Plan requirements.
  • Must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying, or successfully complete the LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.
  • Letter of Intent describing successful experience in supporting and building the capacity of instructional staff, analyzing data to inform decisions that resulted in accelerated student achievement, collaborating with all stakeholders to positively impact student outcomes, and responding to school operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of the LAUSD Strategic Plan, the California Common Core State Standards, the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, and the LAUSD School Leadership Framework.
  • Experience in integrating instructional technology and writing across the curriculum.
  • A deep understanding of school budgets and operational systems.
  • Candidates have one year to complete Multicultural coursework and District Master Plan requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Drive student achievement through effective data analysis and implementation of standards-based instruction.
  • Manage and support certificated and classified staff effectively.

  • Monitor instruction in the classroom, support differentiated instruction, and provide effective feedback to teachers.
  • Build strong relationships with families and foster meaningful parent and community engagement.
  • Support the academic and social-emotional needs of all students, including English Learners and students with disabilities.
  • Respond to school operations, such as safety and emergency preparedness situations.
