About The Position

Provide educational leadership in creating an educational environment for learning. As a building leader, the Assistant Principal contributes toward and facilitates the learning needs of the students assigned to the school and obtains the efforts of all staff members through encouragement and example. This role involves managing the physical environment to ensure student and staff health and safety, and implementing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, with training in administration, supervision, and curriculum development at the elementary or middle school level.
  • Illinois Licensure with Administrative Endorsement
  • Three years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary or middle school level.
  • Three years or more of successful administrative, supervisory, or leadership experience at the elementary or middle school level.
  • An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations and a continuous improvement model.
  • Visible accessibility.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Vision, compassion, and enthusiasm for effective team leadership to motivate high standards and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction at the elementary school level.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain proper certification from ISBE under Section 24A-3 of the School Code enabling to evaluate certified employees.
  • Must maintain this certification during their employment with the school district.
  • Must complete therapeutic crisis training.
  • Ability to intervene physically with students (occasionally).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of evaluations, data collection, and positive behavior intervention systems is required.
  • High task orientation and strong people skills.
  • Knowledge/skills in staff development, PBIS, Common Core, assessments, PERA, balanced literacy, and possess visionary leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute toward and facilitate the learning needs of students.
  • Obtain the efforts of all staff members through encouragement and example.
  • Evaluate the performance of all staff members.
  • Enable staff to improve performance and grow on the job by providing staff development/in-service or directing staff to other offerings.
  • Select, hire, and manage the performance of staff assigned to the building.
  • Recommend changes or improvements in all areas of operation.
  • Collect, record, store, and make available data for sound planning and decision-making.
  • Manage data in accordance with all privacy acts and district policy.
  • Collaborate with other elementary principals and district administrators.
  • Establish good relationships with school clientele, parents, and businesses.
  • Develop a personal and professional growth plan.
  • Support and maintain a positive school climate.
  • Manage all aspects of the physical environment to facilitate education, ensure health and safety, and implement other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary is determined by the Superintendent.
  • 11-month calendar year.
  • Exempt position.
  • Salary range $75,000-$90,000 dependent on education and experience.
