About The Position

Persistent Systems is seeking a Principal Wireless Communication Systems Design Engineer to join its Ad Hoc Network system engineering development team at the NYC headquarters. The role involves working with architecture, RF, FPGA, software, and DSP teams on FPGA-based software-defined radio (SDR) design. The engineer will evaluate SDR system performance, analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and optimize power efficiency, signal quality, and logic-resource usage to meet system design specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience as an Electronics Engineer, Radio Frequency Engineer, or in a related field.
  • 120 months of experience in wireless communication systems design, modeling, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • 120 months of experience in RF transceiver design, including system architecture and system specifications.
  • 120 months of experience in component-level RF transmitter and receiver design, including mixers, synthesizers, LNAs, PAs, and antennas.
  • 60 months of experience with RX AGC operation and optimization under different interferer conditions.
  • 60 months of experience improving efficiency and linearity of high-power GaN amplifiers using CFR and DPD techniques.
  • 120 months of experience with 802.11 wireless systems.
  • 60 months of experience in FPGA-based SDR design, with solid knowledge of wireless PHY, RF data paths, and control algorithms.
  • 96 months of experience leading RF radio development, identifying and analyzing critical requirements, and providing assessments of impacts on critical metrics, timelines, and risks.
  • 120 months of experience working with RF lab equipment such as VNA, VSG, and VSA.
  • 120 months of experience using simulation tools such as CST Microwave Studio, AWR Microwave Office, and MATLAB.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Crest Factor Reduction (CFR) and Digital Predistortion (DPD).
  • Provide specifications and reference algorithms for RF, software, and DSP implementations.
  • Conduct SDR and RF ASIC systems validation and analysis.
  • Propose design and process changes to address RX jamming and multi-radio coexistence, considering trade-offs and implementation constraints.
  • Communicate system performance results to internal software, FPGA, and DSP teams.
  • Collaborate to identify and resolve performance issues in RF and FPGA/DSP subsystems.
  • Provide RF transceiver calibration algorithms and define testing methods.
  • Measure and optimize baseband application performance.
