About The Position

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Dallas-Fort Worth region, is seeking a Principal Transportation Planner. This role will provide planning and technical expertise to support the acceleration of engineering-oriented projects, including roadway and multimodal initiatives, within the region. The NCTCOG is an award-winning organization dedicated to innovation and public service, serving the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams desired
  • Familiarity with civil engineering principles, design, and project development
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing the quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods (e.g., engineering)
  • At least five years of job-related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer license preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating with internal/external partners to determine the appropriate identification and evaluation of alternative alignments and transportation modes
  • Working with partner agencies to advance project delivery
  • Participating in public involvement activities
  • Conducting and reviewing highly technical analyses
  • Coordinating with appropriate transportation and resource agencies
  • Preparing and reviewing correspondence, technical reports, executive summaries, grant applications, and other documents
  • Preparing and delivering oral presentations
