About The Position

Kent is looking for a Principal Telecoms Engineer to be based in Houston, TX. You will support upcoming FEED, detailed engineering, and brownfield/greenfield scopes for client proposals and execution projects in the Gulf Coast region. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in industrial telecommunications systems, proven PE experience in Texas, and the ability to interface effectively with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams. You are responsible for leading engineering activities and the development of technical deliverables to meet the schedule, scope, budget and quality requirements of multi-discipline projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
  • Fifteen (15) years or more of relevant telecoms experience in industrial or energy sector environments.
  • P.E. license (preferable in the State of Texas) is required or able to obtain by comity and NCEES license required.
  • Experience with fiber optic systems, structured cabling, LAN/WAN networks, wireless systems, and industrial communication protocols
  • Familiarity with industrial telecom systems, including CCTV, access control, PA/GA, radio systems, and network infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of CSA codes, USA regulatory requirements, and industry standards
  • FEED and brownfield/greenfield project experience required
  • Ability to apply computer software tools (Microsoft Office 365 suite including Teams)
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal/rapport building skills necessary to work effectively as a team member, and to plan/coordinate processes for results
  • Ability to clearly convey technical information to multidisciplinary teams and clients
  • Strong client-facing presence
  • Analytical and structured approach to telecom system design and troubleshooting
  • Strong vendor and contractor coordination skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review telecom system design packages, including data, voice, fiber optic, wireless, PAGA and security systems
  • Work as Telecom Lead Engineer on FEED, Detailed Engineering, and execution phases for brownfield and greenfield projects
  • Perform system integration reviews and technical evaluations
  • Provide troubleshooting support for telecom network and communication system issues
  • Conduct field verifications, constructability reviews, and final walkdowns
  • Prepare and review telecom system specifications, datasheets, and scope of work documents
  • Develop network architecture diagrams, block diagrams, cable routing drawings, fiber allocation and wiring termination diagrams
  • Ensure documentation aligns with client standards and regulatory requirements
  • Support telecom design calculations, including bandwidth, network load, and redundancy planning
  • Interface with vendors and sub-contractors for technical clarifications and equipment evaluations
  • Review vendor documentation, technical submittals, FAT/SAT documentation, and test results
  • Support procurement activities, including bid evaluations and technical recommendations
  • Identify system vulnerabilities and propose redundancy or resilience improvements
  • Support network upgrades, fiber expansions, and modernization initiatives
  • Assist in cybersecurity coordination and telecom system hardening strategies
  • Maintain telecom engineering documentation and technical logs
  • Contribute to weekly engineering progress reports and technical coordination meetings
  • Interface closely with client’s telecom, IT, Automation and operations departments
  • Collaborate with electrical, instrumentation, automation, and mechanical engineering teams
  • Provide technical input during project reviews and client presentations
