About The Position

The Senior Principal Engineer, Test and Validation, is part of the Raytheon Surveillance Metrology Operations organization. This team is responsible for the calibration and management of measurement and test equipment across the Raytheon Surveillance organization. The position is located within the Surveillance Metrology Operations Primary Standards Laboratory in El Segundo, California; however, the work may support activities across the entire Surveillance organization. Metrology is the scientific discipline focused on measurement and its application. At Raytheon, metrology supports manufacturing and production activities to ensure parts and products comply with specified quality and tolerance criteria. It represents a stable, high‑technology, and highly impactful career field.

Requirements

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
Experience with calibration in a metrology and/or quality management environment.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in physics or mechanical engineering with an emphasis on metrology is strongly preferred.
Hands‑on experience with advanced electro‑optical and dimensional‑optical measurement equipment in a Primary Standards‑level laboratory, performing calibrations and verifications against traceable standards to ensure accuracy and compliance, is strongly preferred.
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Adaptable team contributor with the ability to work independently on technical tasks or collaborate effectively within cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Raytheon personnel across the Surveillance organization to execute equipment calibrations and deliver metrology support, maintaining compliance with contractual requirements as well as applicable government and industry standards.
Collect and analyze measurement data to confirm adherence to technical specifications and quality criteria. Prepare detailed calibration reports and present results in a clear, customer‑oriented format aligned with individual client requirements.
Develop, evaluate, and authorize calibration procedures for measurement and test equipment, ensuring measurement accuracy, repeatability, and full compliance with applicable industry standards and contractual obligations.
Conduct uncertainty analysis to assess and validate the adequacy, reliability, and overall performance of measurement or calibration processes.
Evaluate and fulfill Raytheon’s calibration requirements to maintain production support, optimize operational efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and preserve the precision of critical systems.
On rare occasions, travel to other facilities or conferences will be required.
The interviewee must be able to lift and carry maximum of 20 pounds.
Primary work hours are on first shift, but on rare occasions, shift adjustments may be necessary to support operational needs.
