About The Position

The Principal, Technical Program Manager leads complex, large-scale programs by defining goals, managing cross-functional dependencies, and driving end-to-end technology solutions. This role requires expertise in program planning, risk mitigation, and stakeholder alignment to ensure successful delivery within resource and timeline constraints. The position involves translating technical requirements into scalable system designs, overseeing operational excellence, and fostering continuous improvement. The incumbent proactively communicates progress and risks, mentors team members, and implements strategies to optimize workflows and accelerate program outcomes, contributing to the organization’s strategic objectives and technological advancement. Global Governance Technology develops scalable technology and AI solutions that safeguard Walmart across governance, risk, security, compliance, privacy, investigations, and legal areas. Operating in complex, high-impact settings, the team prioritizes speed, quality, trust, and strong business collaboration. Members work closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Business teams to rapidly translate challenges into measurable outcomes. This team is ideal for professionals focused on solving significant enterprise problems, engaging with senior stakeholders, and delivering technology solutions at Walmart’s scale.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in program and project management, including risk mitigation and resource allocation across complex, multi-team initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead technical program planning, defining goals, critical paths, and delivery milestones with cross-functional dependencies.
  • Strong expertise in stakeholder management, communication, and alignment to drive consensus and resolve ambiguity.
  • Deep understanding of software and system design, cloud infrastructure, and technical architecture principles.
  • Skilled in Agile methodologies, continuous improvement processes, and leveraging data-driven insights for decision-making.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring teams and driving operational excellence frameworks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • OR 8 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, with specialization in strategy, supply chain, finance, information systems, or related area and 4 years’ experience in product design.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining Walmart in creating accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

  • Lead and manage large-scale technical programs, defining goals, timelines, and resource allocation across multiple teams and dependencies.
  • Drive end-to-end technology solutions by collaborating with engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable, high-availability system designs.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation plans to ensure program success while managing budgets and prioritizing high-value efforts.
  • Establish and improve workflows, processes, and automation techniques to enhance program delivery and operational excellence.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and impacts clearly to stakeholders, ensuring alignment and timely resolution of issues.
  • Mentor team members on best practices in program management and technical execution.
