This position contributes to Starbucks’ success by leading the technical roadmap and implementation strategy for Coffeehouse Retail Fulfillment across North American Company Operated and Licensed stores. The Principal Technical Product Manager (TPM) will have a portfolio of services and applications that are foundational to the customer and green apron partner experience, including: We are seeking a Principal Technical Product Manager to own and evolve the Fulfill & Manage Orders platform. The Fulfill & Manage Orders teams own the engine that provides the best-in class order fulfillment services and applications while empowering the partner facing applications and customer facing digital display experiences at scale. These services and applications are foundational to the customer and green apron partner experience. This role operates at the intersection of distributed systems architecture, execution at scale, and organizational leadership. You will define long-term platform strategy, drive large cross-org initiatives, and ensure reliable delivery of mission-critical systems used daily by store partners and customers worldwide. In this role you will be instrumental in shaping the team’s culture, driving technical strategies, and collaborating with cross-functional leaders to deliver an exceptional product. Scope & Impact The Fulfill & Manage Orders platform is responsible for: End-to-end order fulfillment orchestration Partner-facing fulfillment and order management applications Customer-facing order status and digital display experiences Promise times, readiness signals, and capacity guardrails Real-time order state, exceptions, modifications, and cancellations Integration with digital ordering, in-store ordering, commerce platforms, and store systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in product management or technical leadership roles in high-scale transactional systems.
  • 10+ years working directly with UX design and software engineering teams to deliver customer-facing features.
  • Experience owning large-scale systems.
  • Proven track record of managing products through their entire lifecycle from conception to launch and scale.
  • Agile/Scrum/Lean Expertise: Strong experience with Lean, Agile, and Scrum methodologies, and proficiency with tools like JIRA and Confluence. Demonstrated ability to lead agile development processes.
  • Experience with API-first platforms, distributed systems, edge platforms, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, make trade-offs, and evaluate new ideas.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to leverage data for decision-making and product prioritization
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous environments.
  • Mentor other TPMs and establish best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the Fulfill & Manage Orders platform.
  • Partner with principal engineers and architects to define scalable, fault-tolerant, Cloud and Edge architectures supporting real-time fulfillment workflows.
  • Lead architectural reviews and influence design decisions.
  • Lead large, multi-team, multi-year technical initiatives.
  • Drive execution rigor across planning, delivery, launch, and post-launch operations.
  • Align stakeholders across organizations and clearly communicate tradeoffs and risks.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across Coffeehouse Retail Technology to drive cohesive delivery of fulfillment capabilities.
  • Partner with business stakeholders in Coffeehouse Retail Technology and Customer Technology to ensure fulfillment services meet operational, functional, and financial goals.
  • Influence and negotiate across Starbucks Technology and external partners to resolve dependencies and drive alignment.
  • Present solution options and tradeoffs clearly and persuasively to support decision-making.
  • Define and own success metrics including OKRs, and KPIs.
  • Use data analysis to inform prioritization, validate hypotheses, and drive continuous improvement.
