About The Position

The Principal Specialist, Production Planner will lead the development and execution of materials planning strategies across multiple business units, ensuring alignment of material readiness, inventory performance, and production continuity with overall operational and financial objectives. Requirements

  • Typically requires A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
  • Experience in any of the following: Supply Chain, Production and/or Planning Control, MRP, Inventory Management, Capacity Planning, Property Management, JIT Concepts, Master Production Scheduling, or Delivery Administration
  • Experience with SAP

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with MS Office applications including, but not limited to Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
  • Experience interfacing, collaborating, and communicating with all levels of an organization, as well as with a large external customer base, to accomplish tasks
  • Working experience with inventory management principles, supply chain strategy, and production scheduling

Responsibilities

  • Provide enterprise oversight of multi-level BOM structuring and material visibility by directing advanced SAP extraction methodologies, data consolidation techniques, and reporting automation to generate accurate, cross-BU planning intelligence focused on purchased parts, long-lead materials, and critical components.
  • Drive cross-business inventory health strategy by analyzing SAP inventory data, and demand forecasts to identify systemic risks, excess and obsolete exposure, and supply-demand gaps that could impact build plans or working capital targets.
  • Serve as a subject matter authority for materials planning systems and digital tools, supporting SAP enhancements, automation initiatives, and data governance improvements that increase end-to-end supply chain visibility and reporting accuracy across the enterprise.
  • Develop and monitor enterprise-level performance metrics and dashboards linking material readiness, shortage trends, inventory turns, and planning effectiveness to operational stability and financial outcomes, enabling leadership-level decision support.
  • Continuously advance the Materials Planning strategy by identifying cross-BU process gaps, harmonizing planning methodologies, and implementing scalable improvements that enhance production stability, reduce disruptions, and improve overall supply chain performance.
  • Lead material planning and execution activities across assigned value streams, ensuring on-time availability of materials to meet production schedules.
  • Serve as an escalation point for critical shortages, developing and executing recovery plans in partnership with operations, procurement, suppliers, and engineering.
  • Attend daily Tier meetings – ensure material shortage data is up-to-date and prepared for review with Operations.
  • Collaborate with internal suppliers and stockroom to ensure parts are transferred, stocked, and issued to the floor on time.
  • Follow up on high-priority material shortages, escalate as needed.
  • Monitor demand changes & inventory levels, and action accordingly.
  • Review and analyze stock levels for inter-company stock transfer requests – if approved, collaborate with stockroom to create delivery and transfer parts.
  • Identify and ensure material coverage for high-priority programs.
  • Use data-driven approach to recommend forecast and inventory adjustments to SIOP Manager as needed.
  • Prioritize safety and quality, and follow all EH&S guidelines when working on the shop floor.
  • Participate in continuous improvement events as needed to improve efficiency of shop operations.
