About The Position

Our end client, a specialist in Software Development for the Insurance industry, is seeking to expand their team with a Direct Hire for a Principal Software Solutions Engineer. This is a Remote US role. The company offers exceptional benefits, a positive culture, and has experienced doubled growth over the last 18 months. Insurtech experience is a requirement for this position. The role involves approximately 20% travel as needed. The engineer will build for scale, designing solutions with the broader platform in mind and identifying repeatable patterns for scalable product capabilities. They will own outcomes end-to-end, taking full accountability from architecture and implementation through deployment and optimization, proactively resolving issues and improving performance. This role bridges technology and business, requiring clear communication of complex technical concepts to executive stakeholders, product teams, and in delivering production-ready code. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, making informed decisions with limited information, and balancing immediate customer needs with the long-term platform vision. They will also elevate those around them by mentoring engineers, promoting best practices, and fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Insurtech experience is required!
  • 10+ years of professional experience in full-stack or frontend development, specifically within SaaS products or startup environments.
  • Excellent Communication skills; client facing role
  • Consultative type background - acting as a consultant/partner to end clients while remaining accountable for deliverables
  • Strong coder with shown proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, C++, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with Next.js App Router (server components, layouts, streaming, caching).
  • Experience with tRPC or equivalent type-safe API frameworks.
  • Experience implementing complex, data-heavy views with Tailwind and component libraries (shadcn/ui, Mantine, etc.).
  • Ability to design scalable systems and a solid understanding of frontend performance, state management, and accessibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in UI/UX design or working closely with designers is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with strategic customers to solve complex business and technical challenges, serving as the bridge between customer needs and the SaaS platform's evolution.
  • Identify recurring patterns, uncover innovation opportunities, and transform customer-specific solutions into scalable product capabilities for the entire customer base.
  • Balance hands-on engineering with strategic product thinking to shape the platform's future direction and deliver immediate business value.
  • Design, architect, and develop scalable features that strengthen and expand the core SaaS platform.
  • Build full-stack solutions across the application stack, including frontend, backend, APIs, databases, integrations, and cloud services.
  • Lead technical discovery sessions and architecture workshops with customers and internal stakeholders to define future-state solutions and implementation strategies.
  • Develop clean, maintainable, and type-safe code using modern technologies such as TypeScript, React, Next.js, and related frameworks.
  • Translate customer-specific requirements into reusable platform capabilities, ensuring solutions are designed for scale.
  • Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering leadership to influence product strategy, roadmap priorities, and technical direction based on customer insights.
  • Design and implement secure, production-ready integrations and automated workflows that improve customer adoption and operational efficiency.
  • Champion engineering excellence by contributing to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, performance optimization, and platform reliability.
  • Mentor engineers, establish technical standards, and promote best practices to elevate the quality, consistency, and scalability of engineering.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, architectural patterns, and development practices to improve platform performance, maintainability, and customer experience.
