About The Position

Join Walmart Global Tech's Traffic Foundation team, which enables application teams across Walmart to deliver customer experience quickly, efficiently, and securely. The team builds and operates large-scale traffic management systems that handle millions of requests per second, ensuring Walmart's platforms remain scalable, resilient, and high performing during peak traffic events. In this role, you will design and develop high-performance distributed systems at massive scale, working across eCommerce, Stores, and other business areas. You'll help build the infrastructure that accelerates, secures, routes, and distributes traffic across Walmart's technology ecosystem, contributing to some of the company's most critical platform services. Building the right technology foundation for Infrastructure & platforms is vital to success at the scale of Walmart. Our team builds and maintains the foundational technologies that support the tech organization. Included in this are data platforms, enterprise architecture, DevOps, cloud computing, and infrastructure. All these products and services are supported by scalable and powerful infrastructure, ensuring a secure and seamless employee and customer experience across stores, digital channels, and distribution centers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
  • Experience building Layer 4 and Layer 7 orchestration, routing, and load balancing systems.
  • Experience managing systems consisting of more than 1,000 servers.
  • Experience building high-performance HTTP proxies and caching solutions.
  • Cloud experience, preferably with Azure and Go.
  • Hands-on DevOps experience.
  • Strong understanding of TCP and HTTP protocols, including the request/response lifecycle.
  • 4+ years of experience with one or more programming languages such as Go, Rust, C++, or Java.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with a variety of business and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating technical documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in the planning, design, development, testing, and deployment of software systems while ensuring adherence to software compliance, security, and quality standards.
  • Drives technical vision and influences product strategy, architecture, and roadmap development for scalable platform solutions.
  • Leads the implementation of large-scale, complex, cross-functional initiatives that impact multiple business and technology domains.
  • Owns the discovery phase of major projects, defining requirements and developing high-level architectural designs and technical solutions.
  • Provides technical leadership and oversight for cross-functional engineering teams, including offshore and distributed associates.
  • Directs root cause analysis and resolution of critical production and business-impacting issues to ensure platform reliability and performance.
  • Partners with business and technology stakeholders to support strategic objectives and ensure solutions align with organizational needs.
  • Develops and champions innovation strategies, processes, and engineering best practices by collaborating with internal technical teams and cross-functional partners.
  • Evaluates and prioritizes key opportunities through technical assessments, project scoping, and business case development.
  • Establishes long-range technology plans, roadmaps, and timelines to support scalable growth and continuous improvement initiatives.
