About The Position

The Principal, Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving technical excellence across multiple teams. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle, applying cloud-native and distributed system principles to build reliable, high-performance AI-enhanced applications. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to align engineering efforts with business objectives. The Principal Engineer champions innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while ensuring solutions meet quality standards and support long-term platform evolution. The CCM team manages a critical tier0 platform supporting configuration management for over 10,000 applications across Walmart. As part of the Global Tech Platform – Runtime Platform organization, the team enables dynamic configuration changes without application restarts, supporting key workflows such as Disaster Recovery and holiday readiness. CCM drives feature flagging and experimentation across cloud and data center environments with rapid propagation. Serving application developers and business users, the team delivers reliable, scalable solutions that enhance operational agility and optimize experiences for Walmart customers and associates.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
• Proven ability to lead full software development lifecycles, including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Expertise in distributed systems design, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
• Strong proficiency in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using multiple programming languages.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship skills, fostering engineering excellence and innovation.
• Effective collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Commitment to continuous improvement, problem solving, and strategic technical decision-making.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
• Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities
