About The Position

The Principal Software Engineer leads platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions and reusable infrastructure components. This role drives the full software development lifecycle, integrating AI/ML technologies to build intelligent systems that serve millions. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across teams to ensure architectural alignment and operational excellence. The engineer applies sound judgment to solve complex problems, promotes continuous improvement, and supports business objectives through innovation and effective execution of technical roadmaps. This role is critical to advancing Walmart’s engineering vision and platform evolution. Our team partners with Walmart International to support over 5,900 retail locations across 26 countries by delivering efficient inventory management and store operations applications. We focus on innovation and collaboration, applying cloud-native architecture and software design principles to build scalable, resilient solutions. Emphasizing mentorship, problem solving, and data-driven decision making, we enhance platform capabilities and developer productivity. Requirements

  • Extensive experience leading platform engineering initiatives, including shared infrastructure and scalable ML frameworks.
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture and distributed system design for high availability and fault tolerance.
  • Strong technical skills in AI/ML integration, software development lifecycle, and continuous integration/deployment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions across teams.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to engage cross-functional stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Extensive understanding of microservice architecture and design patterns.
  • Expert level knowledge and understanding of Java, Spring Boot, and experience working with distributed systems.
  • Experience with implementing Event Driven Architecture patterns at scale.
  • Proficiency in Kafka, No SQL databases.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
