About The Position

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer who will be part of a team focused on building robust, enterprise level inventory platforms and solutions. Prior experience with inventory and inventory technologies as well as business acumen are essential for success. Your financial and retail environment experience, coupled with expertise around API’s, services, and cloud-based technologies, will help craft innovative solutions to meet our business goals. From inception to completion, you will develop tools and technology, learning quickly from our spirit of experimentation. Overall, you will have a direct impact on improving the performance of our business and ensuring customers can buy and sell the products and services they want in a way that’s right for them. As part of the Technology organization, you will have the opportunity to implement platforms supporting CarMax digital transformation and create best in class developer experiences in bringing business and platform capabilities to market.

Requirements

• 8+ years of Application Development
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience is required
• Hands on programming using C# .Net Core, and Azure or similar cloud technologies required.
• REST API design experience required.
• Experience with API design and development required.
• Knowledge and passion towards the App tier/Service layer methodologies required.
• Strong teamwork skills, ability to learn quickly, excellent written and spoken communication required.
• Experience integrating cloud-based technologies and solutions required.
• Experiencing scripting Infrastructure as code in a CI/CD pipeline
• Prior experience working with container technology such as Docker.
• Experience with version control systems (SVN, GitHub, etc.), build management and CI/CD and monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of SQL Server and NoSQL database technologies required.
• Knowledge of JSON and XML concepts, frameworks, and standards, required.
• Experience working with Agile and DevOps methodologies, required.
• Experience implementing end point security utilizing industry stands and best practices.

Nice To Haves

• Microsoft Azure Cloud experience preferred.
• Understanding and experience with inventory systems and technologies preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of relational databases, SQL and NoSQL knowledge and experience preferred.
• Knowledge of API Gateway technologies, preferred.
• UX / UI experience, React preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and Develop API’s and services using a variety of technologies. Technologies include .NET (C#), cloud-based PaaS / IaaS/ CaaS, open source and third-party solutions tools.
• Develop Azure cloud solutions using services, functions, and other key cloud platform components.
• Implement continuous integration and DevOps practices, including automated testing.
• Develop robust monitoring and alerting.
• Leverage a variety of technologies to provide solutions to business needs.
• Maintain and grow deep knowledge and functional expertise of the supported technology ecosystem and touchpoints and impacts of changing industry best for deployment.
• Maintain and grow deep knowledge of the retail, wholesale, marketplace, and automotive industries, specifically from the point of view of how technology is being applied to drive customer experiences.
• Partner closely with Architects, Engineers, Product Owners, QE and business to drive the inventory ecosystem forward.
• Utilize AI to accelerate and enhance engineering throughput and quality.
• Create technical and support artifacts for applications and integrations.
