About The Position

Parexel FSP is seeking a Principal Scientist I - Open Access Liquid Chromatography Chemist to work as a full-time employee on a long-term assignment onsite at a client's location in South San Francisco, California. This role involves operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting open access Waters LC-MS instruments to support discovery chemistry and high-throughput experimentation (HTE) Waters LC-MS when needed. The position requires expertise in analytical method development for characterizing various molecules, conducting purity analysis, and performing routine upkeep of LC-MS instruments. The scientist will also communicate instrument status to end-users, respond to repair calls, and maintain accurate documentation. This role is crucial for supporting the development and delivery of new therapies by providing qualified technical professionals.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in analytical chemistry or biological sciences, with at least 3 or more years of relevant and hands-on experience
  • PhD in analytical chemistry or biological sciences; with 1 or more years of relevant and hands-on experience
  • Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC)
  • Experience with Waters, Sciex, or Agilent LC-MS instrumentation and software
  • High resolution mass spectrometry
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Proficient with written and spoken English, is required

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot open access Waters LC-MS instruments to support discovery chemistry, as well as HTE Waters LC-MS when needed.
  • Utilizes analytical method development to characterize small molecules, peptides, antibody drug conjugates and others
  • Conducts purity analysis of investigational compounds by liquid chromatography (LC)
  • Checks instrument performance daily, prepares mobile phases, and performs routine upkeep of walkup liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) instruments
  • Communicate to end-user on status of instruments.
  • Responds to end-user repair calls for LC-MS and troubleshoots/repairs simple issues such as leaks or clogs
  • Submits and coordinates repair tickets for more complex issues
  • Maintains accurate documentation and records
  • Assist with purity analysis of investigational compounds by liquid chromatography (LC) and high-resolution mass spectrometry experiments.
  • Support Laser capture microdissection (LCM) process of Open Access instruments
  • LC and LC-MS analysis of small molecule samples as needed.
