Principal RF Engineer - Remote
About The Position
Motorola Solutions is seeking a Propagation and Coverage subject matter expert for its Engineering Practice team. This role specializes in RF coverage and supports Motorola Field Engineering Teams across North America. The team designs and implements mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for government and public safety customers, as well as some large commercial customers, including systems based on the APCO Project 25 standard. The Principal Coverage Engineer works with Sales, Project Management, System Engineering, and Field Engineering personnel in a high-performance environment with demanding timelines and customer expectations. The engineer provides guidance on coverage design and implementation from proposal through project award and system acceptance. The position is remote anywhere in the United States and requires some travel.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in BSEE or BSCE.
- At least 10 years of engineering experience.
- Experience or knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, and wireless system design.
- Experience setting up modeling tools to execute and optimize coverage and interference-mitigation designs.
- Experience or knowledge troubleshooting RF sites and noise-mitigation challenges on deployed systems and advising local field teams.
- Experience or knowledge in site deployment and installation practices.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.
- Self-motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment.
- Legal authorization to work indefinitely in the United States; employer work-permit sponsorship is unavailable.
Nice To Haves
- 10 or more years of RF/Propagation Engineering in the wireless communications field.
Responsibilities
- Guide requirements for internal tools used in coverage propagation studies.
- Develop and apply methods, theories, and research techniques to solve technical problems.
- Provide Motorola Solutions internal field resources with technical support throughout all project phases.
- Provide consultative support to external customers and consultants on projects when required.
- Interface with product teams on system performance parameters.
- Develop Motorola Solutions coverage standards and practices and disseminate them to field teams.
- Guide and support coverage site deployments and testing.
- Lead coverage field training by developing on-site and recorded courses, webinars, and how-to guides.
- Maintain awareness of FCC changes that may affect public safety P25 Land Mobile Radio.
- Mentor engineers and build depth of knowledge and experience.
- Drive Coverage Subject Matter Expert initiatives.
