Principal Product Manager, Confluence Aggregation

Atlassian•San Francisco, CA
•$163,593 - $257,325

About The Position

The Principal Product Manager will own how Confluence turns connected content into knowledge that maintains itself, including what a space pulls in, how content is organized, how it stays current, and when it flags missing information. The role covers vision through launch and iteration, often addressing undefined problems. Content quality is central: stale, mis-grouped, or incorrect content can cause teams to act on unreliable information. The role serves three audiences: administrators who approve connected systems and need to trust that permissions remain intact; space owners accountable for keeping knowledge current; and end users who need answers without having to know which system supplied the information. The product spans integrations, content organization, freshness and decay, retrieval quality, and AI-powered experiences. The Principal Product Manager will set the product bar, make quality and launch decisions, drive execution across multiple functions, bring recommendations to executive forums, and mentor other product managers. Atlassian allows employees to choose to work in an office, from home, or in a combination of the two, and can hire in countries where it has a legal entity.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management experience.
  • Experience with at least one product where content, retrieval, or a model-powered experience was core to its value rather than an added feature.
  • Experience taking a 0-to-1 product from strategy through launch and beyond its first disappointing metric.
  • Experience shipping large language model-powered features and owning their evaluations, including defining correct answers, building and maintaining test sets, detecting regressions, and deciding whether to ship or hold.
  • Fluency with unstructured and semi-structured content and how different content types behave when split, retrieved, and summarized.
  • Demonstrated AI product judgment, including evaluating features for specific jobs, personas, and moments; accounting for the user cost of incorrect outputs; keeping suggestions' cognitive cost low; and retiring AI surfaces that no longer add value.
  • Understanding of retrieval-augmented generation and how coverage and permissions affect answer trustworthiness.
  • Ability to protect administrator trust while balancing pressure to increase content reach, and to articulate the long-term cost of surfacing stale, incorrect, or unauthorized content.
  • Ability to align senior partners with competing priorities and write clearly enough to support quick executive decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience shipping integrations with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Salesforce, or a data platform, including managing them operationally after launch.
  • Background in knowledge management, enterprise search, or document management.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and evaluation tools to test quality hypotheses before engineering implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy and roadmap for connected content in Confluence, including what is imported, how it is grouped, titled, and summarized, and how stale or contradictory content is handled.
  • Define how unstructured and semi-structured inputs such as documents, spreadsheets, meeting transcripts, chat threads, and CRM records become usable structures in Confluence.
  • Own content freshness and decay, determining what updates automatically, what requires human confirmation, and how users can identify which applies.
  • Set and defend retrieval quality standards for source permission fidelity, accuracy, and latency; determine what should not ship and maintain quality standards when timelines are at risk.
  • Own quality evaluations for large-language-model-powered experiences, including defining correct outputs, building test sets, identifying regressions as models and content change, and deciding when outputs are ready to ship.
  • Determine where AI belongs in the experience and how it behaves when wrong, while keeping suggestions useful and low-cost to ignore.
  • Drive execution across Engineering, Design, Data Science, Research, Marketing, Partnerships, and Security and Trust.
  • Bring clear recommendations to executive forums.
  • Set the product bar, mentor product managers, and raise the quality of team specifications and decisions.

Benefits

  • The role may be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
  • Atlassian offers health and wellbeing resources and paid volunteer days.
