About The Position

Kin is seeking a Principal, Pricing Intelligence to lead the use of AI to improve home pricing in complex markets. Reporting to the Chief Insurance Officer and partnering closely with the Chief Analytics Officer and CEO, this role will own a portfolio of AI-driven pricing initiatives from discovery through production and identify opportunities to extend AI into adjacent parts of the business. The role will shape pricing and risk-management decisions, improve responsiveness to market and portfolio signals, and strengthen the explainability and defensibility of pricing for regulators, reinsurers, and homeowners. The position combines actuarial pricing expertise, technical implementation, and executive-level decision support. It will build AI-assisted infrastructure and tools that transform rate filings and rating logic into executable, auditable engines; integrate AI into pricing and risk-management workflows; and translate market, portfolio, and climate-risk signals into pricing and underwriting actions. It will also guide cross-functional delivery with actuarial, underwriting, product, and data engineering teams. Kin is a remote-first employer. For this position, employees must be able to live and work full-time in one of the listed eligible U.S. states. Kin also has offices in Chicago, Illinois, and St. Petersburg, Florida, for team collaboration.

  • Fluency in Python and SQL.
  • Working experience with cloud data platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Experience leading discovery with internal users, mapping workflows, identifying costly manual steps, and validating solutions before scaling.
  • Experience designing AI systems for regulated environments, including human-in-the-loop review, evaluation and accuracy testing, audit trails, and model governance that satisfies regulators.
  • Ability to communicate technical trade-offs and recommendations clearly to a C-suite audience.
  • Ability to operate amid ambiguity, scope work independently, prioritize competing opportunities, and move from concept to production without a playbook.

Nice To Haves

  • Contributed to open-source insurance tooling or built auditable rating engines.
  • Reinsurance experience or exposure to catastrophe modeling for wind, wildfire, or severe convective storm perils.
  • Experience building executive dashboards that integrate carrier experience, benchmarks, and third-party data.
  • Homeowners insurance experience.

  • Build AI-assisted pricing infrastructure, including rate-filing transcription, deterministic validation, quote tracing, book re-rating, and source-level provenance.
  • Embed AI into pricing and risk-management workflows, including rate reviews, segmentation, filings, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Translate portfolio, market, and climate-risk signals into concrete actions concerning rate adequacy, risk appetite, eligibility, targeted growth, and remediation.
  • Identify, prototype, and scale AI applications beyond pricing across underwriting, product, and operations.
  • Provide clear, defensible analyses and recommendations to the Chief Insurance Officer, Chief Analytics Officer, and CEO to support executive decisions.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with actuarial, underwriting, product, and data engineering teams to move AI-driven pricing initiatives from concept to production.
  • Set standards for how the pricing team uses AI and coach analysts in adopting new tools.
