About The Position

Fifth Third Bank is hiring a Principal Platform Engineer for Lockbox & Integrated Solutions. The role evaluates, designs, and implements technology solutions that advance technology strategies for a line of business. In most cases, the engineer is the application owner for third-party or purchased software aligned with a line of business, serving as the main liaison with vendors and coordinating understanding of upcoming changes, the software’s place in the technology roadmap, and plans that maintain business continuity and effectiveness.

The engineer works with business partners to design and implement solutions for vendor software changes, understands the bank’s systems and their configurations, and recommends whether to continue using or eliminate third-party solutions. On an agile squad, the role works with the product owner to ensure user stories are sufficiently clear and specific for developers to deliver effective technology solutions. The position also develops and maintains product capabilities, supports operational excellence and continuous improvement, provides operational troubleshooting, and coaches less experienced team members. All employees are accountable for managing risk, following policies and procedures, and supporting positive experiences for customers and colleagues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• At least 8 years of engineering or other IT work experience relevant to the position.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to work in a highly collaborative environment.
• Solid understanding and significant experience with modern software development practices, tools, and/or hardware technologies.
• Solid understanding of IT security best practices.
• Expertise in one or more technical and/or functional domains relevant to the position.
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex technical solutions.
• Technical skills specific to the position’s requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the main liaison with software vendors for systems used by a line of business.
• Stay informed about vendor software changes and enhancements and assess their business impact.
• Work with the line of business to design solutions incorporating software changes and coordinate effective implementation with business partners.
• Understand the business technology roadmap and recommend continued use or elimination of current third-party software solutions.
• When assigned to an agile team, collaborate with the product owner to ensure user stories are clear and specific enough for developers to meet customer needs.
• Implement and maintain new features and capabilities while continuously improving technical products and services.
• Follow industry and organizational best practices and standards, and participate in communities of practice to refine and communicate them.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
• Automate processes and create maintainable, supportable, and testable solutions to achieve operational excellence.
• Keep up with technology trends and innovations in relevant fields of practice.
• Provide operational support and troubleshoot the team’s products and services.
• Coach, mentor, and train new or less experienced team members.
• Identify, assess, manage, monitor, and report risks while operating within the bank’s risk appetite and following policies and procedures.
